    Probably Under Primed?

There is 14 litres so the calculator called for 60g of table sugar. If anything I put a tad more in (not loads, though). Thanks for the replies. I've put one bottle in the fridge today so will open on Christmas Day (or Boxing Day if I can wait) and will see how it is. Cheers!

    Probably Under Primed?

My latest brew has now been bottled and capped for 9 days. Having kept it in the 'warm' (around 20 degrees, though possibly not at night), I was hoping to put one bottle in the fridge tomorrow in the hope I could have a first sample on Christmas Day. However when I have looked at the bottom...

    Epic Fail

I used an online calculator and it came out at less than 70g of sugar... Though I only had around 14 litres of beer in the end.

    Epic Fail

Ah right so might look at blanket just as the heating goes off at night but take the blanket off on a morning when the house is fairly warm Ah right... I was wondering how people knew when it was carbonated

    Epic Fail

Thanks again for all the advice. I bottled tonight... 27 bottles worth. I'm a tad worried about how long it took me in terms of the beer being exposed to the air but I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed all is ok. Bottling that much beer on your own with my current setup is a nightmare...

    Epic Fail

So following my original disaster I made another brew just over a fortnight ago. I took a sample tonight and the Gravity was 1.008. The original was 1.05. According to the Brewers friend calculator its roughly 5.5% - does this sound right?! Happy enough if so! I'm going to take another reading...

Which movie(s) have you watched recently?

    Gremlins

Fermentation Time - Am I waiting long enough?

How often do you take samples or readings?

    Hello from Leeds!

Hi and welcome. Keep hold of that GF. I often think it would be helpful to have another pair of hands on brew day but she's not up for it!

    Absolute amateur

A very good piece of advice. I spent 6 hours on a brew and then (being rushed along by the other half) ended up pitching the yeast at a few degrees higher than I should and overfilling my airlock, leading to it leaking into the beer  If going down the AG route I would recommend reading a...

Very happy with this. My first AG brew in the glass.

Looks great! This hobby is so addictive!

Fermentation Time - Am I waiting long enough?

No, but as a relative noob I made up a recipe (based on one in a CAMRA book) and so haven't got an expected final gravity:doh: Having read more I will follow proper recipes in future or at least go through the Brewers Friend calculators. My fermenter doesn't have a tap also so I am scared...

    Bottling tips - Newbie

Just caught up on this reply (had posted on another thread about putting a small amount in each bottle). Thanks, I will look into the batch priming method :thumb:

    What are you drinking tonight?

Few Hobgoblin Gold tonight but a treat to start - York Brewery Snowflake or Guzzler. Can't decide :hmm:

Fermentation Time - Am I waiting long enough?

I did a blonde ale a fortnight ago and it's been in the fermenter ever since. Do you think I am safe to bottle over the weekend? Where would you go from there? 2 more weeks at room temp then fridge? I usually Prime my bottles with a small amount of brewing sugar too - is this right?

    Bottling tips - Newbie

When I had done AG kits it said to put a small amount of the priming solution in each bottle before adding the beer... I'm guessing from your post you don't need to do this and can simply add the beer to the already mixed solution and then bottle from there? How much sugar to water do you...

    Brewing belt v Heat mat

Thank you for the advice Chippy Tea - will get one after payday :) Edit: @Chippy_Tea - what temperature would you set it at? Assume it's actually a bit warmer inside than through the fermenter?

    Stealing that idea!!! :thumb:

    Brewing belt v Heat mat

I've bought a Heat mat today as I'm worried that even my little bedroom will be dropping down to less than 18 (or even 15 for the yeast I'm using) degrees overnight. Planning on using a timer to have it coming on and off to stop it warming the beer. Anyone have any idea how fast the mats are at...

    Bottling tips - Newbie

Any harm in using a sterilised sieve and funnel to help when siphoning into bottles? If you have a helper of course  Should you always prime bottles with some sugar/water?
