    Stupidest Mistake You've Ever Made

Firstly, many thanks to everyone for replying as you've made me feel so much better about myself! I once overfilled my airlock and then moved the fermenter - the change in pressure sucking some of the sanitiser back into the wort. If that wasn't silly enough I immediately chucked the...

I received this one for Christmas - used it at the weekend and am very pleased with it...

    Grain Storage

If I keep grain in the shed in an old fermentation bucket would it be ok if the temperature drops, potentially below freezing? :hmm: Need a rethink for when it gets warmer too :hmm:

    What did you brew today?

Don't worry pal I've made some ridiculous mistakes up to this point. It's all a learning curve :thumb:

    What did you brew today?

Just want to say thanks for the advice regarding my brew a couple of posts back. My beer is fermenting away, airlock steadily bubbling :) Fingers crossed it turns out ok.

    What did you brew today?

Had some issues with my brew today. Firstly, I had already started before checking my freshly delivered ingredients, leading to a realisation that I hadn't ordered the Challenger hops I thought I had  - anyway, I decided to use the Belma and in-stock Williamette hops for the bittering...

    Dry January

Can never do this as my birthday is this month and I normally go to York for the weekend (and consequently York Brewery) Might try Feb... :hmm:

    Fruit beer.

Interesting read. Next time I do a brew I might rack some off into a demijohn on the strawberry purée and see what happens! Would this impact the ABV? :hmm:

    Recipe Compositions...

I'll be honest I chose those hops based on the flavour profile on the website I got them off, not because I have a vast experience of different hops! I've bought them now so will give them a go at some point but will also get some of the hops you've mentioned to do something a bit more simple...

Hello from not so sunny Blackpool

United Utilities refer to the current condition of the water in my postcode area as 'Slightly Hard'. I've not yet looked into water conditioning too much as from what I've read it can be quite involved!

    Recipe Compositions...

Thank you for the replies. Expat - 50g post boil? That may change my recipe somewhat then as I really want to extract the fruit notes from both the hops I've chosen. Darrell- I will look to dry hop some future brews then. I assume dry hopping is done with 'complete' hops (not pellets etc as...

    Recipe Compositions...

Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on putting together recipes? I have used the Brewer's Friend tool today and am very impressed with it. I went for a "British Golden Ale" and what I've composed has ticked all but two of the boxes for the style and come out at just over 4% ABV...

Hello from not so sunny Blackpool

ive been trying to use bottled water but almost always ended up using some from the tap. In all my brews there has always been a slight similar flavour at some point of the tasting process. I tried my mate's extract brew recently and his also had it, albeit slightly less noticeable. It's not bad...

    Your brew plans for 2018

If I can research this well enough I'd like to give it a go. The Mrs drinks "Timmermans" so would be good to make something she could get excited about too. Edit: Scratch that, it seems far too complicated - can you brew fruit beers more simply?!

Hello from not so sunny Blackpool

Hi and welcome. I'm in Blackpool too. How do you find the water for brewing? :hmm:

    Probably Under Primed?

So I've cheekily sampled a couple of my beers and it seems some are slightly more carbonated than others... Or at least keep their head for longer. I guess this is normal?

    Probably Under Primed?

Ah right I see, thanks. That makes sense, it just wasn't clear to this noob when using the calculator for the first time. Not on this occasion - I have TeesPorter or TransPortrer (bridge) earmarked for any darker ales I brew!

    Probably Under Primed?

Thanks for all the advice once again. I opened one tonight and there was the familiar 'Tssst' sound. Once poured there was a lot of bubbles clinging to the side of the glass which made me fear it was over carbonated but then very quickly they had completely vanished. Happy enough with how the...

    Probably Under Primed?

A little concerned it may be too carbonated now from people's comments! All a learning curve though I know. I did follow the BF calculator... anyone else use it? I assume the "temperature of beer" refers to the temp at the time of packaging? Also, how do you know how much C02 is already in...
