    Boardgames

another vote for call of cthulhu from me. Started in the 80s and got back into it about 4 years ago. Great atmospheric game. The American 1920s setting lends itself to lots of time in speakeasies. Great fun.

    cold steeping

I've had good results from cold steeping dark speciality grains. Steep for about 24 hours in cold water, then add the extract towards the end of the boil, e.g. At 10 mins. You may need to add more dark grains this way than if you were mashing. I've found double quantities good, but that's just...

    Bought beer..

Some of those beers used to be good though. What's really galling is buying stuff you used to like and finding they've messed around with it. Can anyone point to any 'big name' ales that are still reliable? Subjective, I know...

    Hydrating yeast

Apologies if this has been asked many times before. I get the gist of how to rehydrate yeast, but instructions I've seen refer to sterilized water. How do you go about this? Boil and leave to cool for...ages?

The free press, tucked away behind the parkers piece police station. Used to have the most wonderful Greene king and Guinness. Not been for a long time but I hear they still have mild on all year round
