    Does Kit Fermenting Smell?

If it is in your living room you will be able to smell it. In reality some people are more sensitive to the smell than others and find it more unpleasant. My daughter hates the smell and says she can smell it even when it’s in a spare bathroom. I on the other hand quite like it. It is part of...

    Does Kit Fermenting Smell?

It will have some smell - strangely our other half’s seem to notice it more than we do! 🤣🤣

    Does anyone use...

I have recently switched from BIAB to a Brewmonk and have found my beer to be very much clearer due to the recirculating pump. My beers are clear within a couple of days of bottling which was never the case with BIAB for me.

My small scale hop growing setup

Mine mixed up a bit last year. I think I probably could have distinguished them as they had a slightly different appearances and ripened at slightly different times. I didn’t really care I was so excited to get so many. I mixed them up and had my own blend- which I am working my way through...

Just acquired more allotment space, which hops to grow along side my Chinook and Centennial?

Post pictures- I love to see how different hops grow in different parts of the country. I am probably one of the most south hop grower on the forum I wonder who is the most north?

WKD blue clone/ hard seltzer - not so easy?

ha ha Doc Anna - he’s happy to drink a nice hoppy IPA he’s nearly 30! Just he still has nostalgia and occasionally goes and sits on the beach with his friends in Guernsey to drink it like they did when they were younger! They call it bitchpop!

I grow cascade and centennial. Went out yesterday and they were already sprouting the first bines!

WKD blue clone/ hard seltzer - not so easy?

So my son asked me if I could make a WKD clone. This is the horrendous blue alcopop that you can purchase which costs about three quid for a 750 ml bottle. My original thought was why would I do that - but then I realised there were quite a few technical challenges to be overcome. Firstly you...

Hi all I'm Dan and thinking of starting home-brewing,any

I would say start simple with a kit to get your brewing legs. It helps to get a fairly decent one to give you a fighting chance. buy the basics - fermenter, hydrometer, spoon, thermometer, funnel, bottles and see how you (and The other half!) get on with it. It does take some space and time to...

    Bottling

I use swing top bottles. Wash after use and run through dishwasher. Put lids on and store in crates. On bottling day I run them all through the sanitise function of the dishwasher without powder and place in crate. Then bottle directly from the conical fermenter into bottles in the crate using a...

Brew Monk Newbie - Mash Water

I have just got a Brew Monk too -a great investment but it takes a little bit of getting used to. You can do a full volume mash - I add the water from the sparge to the initial mash volume which will then fill up your Brewmonk sufficiently. It Will affect your efficiency a little bit but my...

    Yeast Recommendations for Leffe clone

Cheshire Cat - did you order flaked corn online - presumably not corn flakes! I have flaked Maize is that similar enough?

Getting labels for your home brew.

So I ordered Avery 80mm square labels. They are reasonably cheap but more importantly they are peelable to make them easier to remove. The Avery website has software that allows you to import one label design and it duplicates for the type of label you have purchased. Very impressed I printed...

    Am I making mistakes?

Hello and welcome Biffotrout. Bottle straight from the fermentation bin, then leave the bottles somewhere indoors for two weeks to carbonate where it is reasonably warm and then somewhere cooler to condition. I leave mine in a crate in the utility room to carbonate then shift outside to a store...

    #52 Voss Kviek Pale Ale

You can under pitch and dry or freeze the slurry indefinitely. Once you’ve bought one lot of kveik you needn’t really buy any more. So actually a billy bargain. However I’ve got several different strains and always happy to share.

Accidentally threw out yeast during trub-dump: am I doomed?

Yes agreed. Also the dump valve on my old plastic conical is more than a bit crotchety. Once ended up with the whole lot on the kitchen worktops! I will get a better stainless steel one at some point. 🤣
