The Quest for the Perfect Bitter

So based on this very good thread I've just brewed some kind of bitter. I'm not clued up on recipes so I just made it up based on the Greg Hughes Yorkshire bitter and other things I read on here. 11L Batch 1.75kg Maris Otter 175g Medium Crystal 150g Torrified Wheat 100g Vienna 20g Chocolate...

    Co2

Yeah that's an S30 valve. I can't work out how to link to a thread but if you go on the How To Guides section @Hazelwood Brewery has a very good guide to pressure barrels like yours. Pinned at the top.

    Co2

Depends what fitting is on your pressure barrel. But I believe it's an S30.

You can use Soda Stream bottles yeah. That regulator has a solenoid on it for some reason, not sure what that bits for but if you get the right connectors can't see an issue.

    Massive discounts this month!

Hi, just a question about your corny keg starter kit setup. There's no list of what's included in the description on the site, what exactly is included?

    Belt in Oil

I don't see the benefits of running the belt through oil, of course it's going to degrade it. Although the man does state it's only an issue if you don't follow the correct service schedule.

    Beer Countdown

I've had exactly the same thoughts. Come the date people will be pointing the fingers at the government saying they had failed on another promise when in reality a lot of people have taken provisional dates and run with them. There will be tears. Edit: I should probably add that I'm from Wales...

    First Turbo Cider

@Manners do you mind sharing the recipes you used for those two TC's? They look and sound delightful.

    Identifying a peice of equipment

If your engineering it yourself make a small A frame maybe? Castors on either end so it's manouverable. We used a huge version in work on an unaccessible project not long ago to lift a 1.5 tonne casing. Alternatively you can make a strong bracket on the wall and mount a pulley on that if you...

    Snow.

Absolutely freezing cold with wind chill here in glorious Newport but no snow. Few flakes on Monday but nothing settled.

    St Peters IPA Kit Trouble/Mistakes

That's ok it's high as expected with the 2kg of sugar and what I see online was a two can kit. The expected 5.5% will be quite a bit north of that I'm assuming. Not quite sure how to calculate though as OB says some of that sugar won't be fermented out. Enjoy in moderation.

    St Peters IPA Kit Trouble/Mistakes

Did you measure the gravity at all before you pitched the yeast? Adding the extra sugar will only increase the ABV. That is as long as the yeast can handle all the sugar. The extra water will then dilute the wort. Without gravity readings it's hard to know where you are. Could have a loose...

    Brewery near you?

Tiny Rebel about 5 minutes away and AB Inbev in Magor about 20 minutes away. Worked at Inbev as a contractor a few years ago but I've heard it's expanded again since. Huge operation.

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

The first bottle of my Oatmeal Stout that didn't gush everywhere when I opened it and it's really nice. Best of the small amount of beers I've made.

    Bake your first sourdough 🤤

I think that may be my problem then. I proved overnight then baked the following night and the bread was really nice but I wanted more bubbles. I'll get him out the fridge in the morning after work and see what happens. Thanks.
