    Stuck fermentation

Been there, done that! Glad it’s not just me :)

    Northern Brewer FV markings

Northern Brewer are American so I would expect the markings to be US silly gallons. And they wouldn’t dream of putting helpful, unambiguous litres on it. So time to dig out a measuring jug and a sharpie.

    Spieglau glasses improved!

I love my Spiegelaus. The tulip is my go-to glass these days.

    Fermentations/Demijohns

If you’re brewing 2 can kits, just do 1 can at a time. Either only use half the yeast sachet, or pitch the whole lot and save the yeast cake for the second brew. You can make this work with 1 can kits too, by storing half the can in the fridge (I use a sterilised Lock n Lock tub of just the...

    Wooden Bacardi barrel - uses

Can you even get Flowers anymore? I assume Interbrew killed it off.

    Mystery parcel...

I might give them a try. I’ve been disappointed by Beer Hawk since the takeover.

    Starter kit woes

Aah, you took the gravity reading two days after pitching yeast? That’s not a OG then. It may even be FG.

    Yeast for malty milk stout

I went with M42. Brewed last night, pitched the yeast this morning after rehydrating. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

    Starter kit woes

That’s a good point - Northern Brewer are an American manufacturer. But I don’t think that would account for the low SG reading in this instance.

    Starter kit woes

I’d first check your hydrometer by putting it in plain water at 20C and checking it’s at (or very near to) 1.000. If I’d got a reading that far ‘off’ I’d have taken a second sample after giving the wort a really good stir to ensure mixing. However, if you’ve now pitched the yeast I would...

    Yeast for malty milk stout

Excellent! I already have M42 and it only cost me 50p. #winning

    Yeast for malty milk stout

I’ve put my AG adventure on temporary hold in order to use up my LME supplies. I’ve got some Munich LME (50:50 Munich and pale apparently) to use. My initial thoughts were to make a malty bitter/ESB but I realised I don’t have the right yeast - my Fullers in the fridge is quite old and I don’t...

    Out of date grain pack

To be fair, it’s already good value without the kit (assuming this is the Beer Hawk offer, but they are the only UK stockist so a reasonable assumption) without the Block Party Amber Ale. But as you say, being upfront (as they are with their Mystery boxes) avoids any ill will.

    Out of date grain pack

I assume this was from Beer Hawk? This explains why it’s 50% off! I’ve had good experience with their customer relations, so hopefully they’ll sort you out. I’d still brew the kit though. Never waste a brew day! :)

    Low postage for yeast-only orders?

Hi again! Apart from CML, are there any other Homebrew suppliers who charge a low postage cost if you just order yeast? Planning a brew for mid-week but don’t have any suitable yeast for my current plans, but don’t want to spend £5 or more on postage for a £3 sachet of yeast! May need to...

Which yeast for free-fermented kit stout?

Having wasted your time earlier, here's a unrequested update! Returned from holiday to find the artisan fermenter (Ashbeck bottle, but that sounds less fancy) caked in sticky goo and the airlock someway from the water bott... I mean, artisan fermenter. Clearly the high temps in the cupboard...
