Help needed - First attempt using kveik (extract)

Thanks - it’s currently brewing so no changes to malt bill now! OG 1.052 @ 30C and it’s chugging along nicely. I might go for EKG and Saaz next time - how do you use them/ what ratio?

    Infected brew...?

No chill is quite popular - some forumites do it all the time. But it does put your sterilisation process to the test.

    Infected brew...?

If you have a spare FV, why not try both?

    Kveik

Nope, combi boiler in a kitchen cupboard. No water tank at all.

    Kveik

Has anyone tried dehydrating the slurry by spreading it on parchment then putting it in an airtight tin with silica gel? Does silica absorb enough moisture for this to work? With small children I’m reluctant to leave the oven on overnight and I don’t own a dehydrator.

The worst thing you ever did in life

No2. Bought a pint of Fosters. No1. Drank it. In my defence, I was young and didn’t know any better.

Help needed - First attempt using kveik (extract)

I've got a pouch of Omega Hornidal kveik sitting in the fridge crying to be let out in this weather. I thought a pale ale/IPA would be a good place to start, but given the excrutiating heat I'm minded to go for a 15-minute boil extract recipe to avoid standing in a hot kitchen too long. The...

    head lacking on my beer

I sometimes get poor head retention from commercial beers too. The main culprit seems to be when someone has washed the glass in detergent then left it to dry without rinsing in clean water. I think a thin film of detergent gets left on the glass. Especially so if it’s left on a shallow-grooved...

    Labelling bottles...

Crown caps - I buy white ones and write the brew # on with a sharpie. PETs - round labels from Ryman. They scape off easily when wet. Anything else seems a waste of effort _for me_ - I’m not selling the beer or giving it away as gifts so I don’t care what the bottle looks like. But these tips...

    AG73 - Flanders Red Ale

I think in Rodenbach Grand Cru the old ale in the blend is aged 3 years in barrel.

Anybody use a water filter rather than bottled water?

Please could you let me know what water treatment you carry out for your pales? You live just down the road from me so we probably have similar water.

Clusterfugget - yup you read that correctly!!!!

Huell melon, ahtanum, warrior, Amarillo, Idaho, target, simcoe. Would be lovely in a dark farmhouse ale. Yes, I’ll be using my Huell AWAITS in my Saisons in the Abyss.

    Mangrove Jacks Belgian Saison Flavour

Wheat beers are supposed to be good for a quick turnaround. I’ve not brewed one yet myself though.

    Simply, Brown Ale Kit Review

Final update. I laboured through most of these but ended up tipping a few as I needed the bottles. Was very dull - needs pimping IMO.

    Beer Labels

For Brewdog I found a hot water soak would soften the glue enough to remove the label. Then sticky stuff remover did the rest. I’d wait until I had a few bottles to do to minimise wasting the solvent. Fullers are my favourite - hot water soak and they just float off. Beer is tasty too :)

    Mangrove Jacks Belgian Saison Flavour

Razorback IPA is always a popular choice.

Hoteleleven - Robobrew £55? Too good to be true

A lot of black and white striped horses round your way? Been hitting the imperial stouts again? :)

    Temperature Control

You can get them a lot cheaper than that. It was just the first link I found.
