    The old meat grinder

Grandmother gave me this a few months back. Thought I would share it with you all. Took it to work and scotch brited it. Then satin mopped it. Then chucked it in the vibro (ceramic bead type vibration) polisher. Took it all the bits ovioulsy. Sanded the handle and bees waxed it. Markings...

About to attempt wine made with grapes, any tips?

It was made out of simple scraps of 3x2 timber. Reinforced the corner joints with plywood cut unto L shapes as these corners are where the stress will be. Then I got a baking tray and drilled a hole at one end. Put the chopped or scratted apples into a mesh bag like you have and put a wooden...

Hops for a light ABV IPA

Will give that a go certainly. I had quite a lot in during the boil. And as you say added bitterness. May try mostly dry hopping. I didn't get around to brewing as my broken toe is still giving me some problems and didn't want to risk moving 23 litres of boiling wort about with only one good...

I've made carrot wine before and it turned out pretty well. Decided just to replace the sugar with honey. Pitched mangrove jacks mead yeast this morning.

    Wonga on brink of collapse.

My wife fell down the stairs last year. She caused significant damage to her C2 vertebrae. Something that usually has a very high fatality rate. (Bloody flip flops) She was out of work for a good 6 months on basic sick pay. It was a struggle to make ends meet. I have no real family I can rely...

    Hi from Leeds

Welcome to the forum. Nice setup. May I suggest a refractometer. You only need a drop of liquor. Rather than 100ml. Reduced chance of contamination and no real temperature conversion needed as hydrometers are calibrated generally to 20 degrees C

    2018 Apple Harvest Cider Thread

I picked a glut of apples many years back. I made a knock up press from scrap wood and a car scissor jack I found on the street. Someone had extended it way to far and the location rings had come out. Guess they couldn't be bothered to wind it all the way back down again again and take 5 mins...

About to attempt wine made with grapes, any tips?

Sorry you've said they are sweet and and ripe. In my shed having a cigarette and didn't read all the posts thoroughly. How did you press the juice? I've used a simple wooden frame, a car scissor jack and a baking tray before with real good success.

About to attempt wine made with grapes, any tips?

Sure I made a thread or commented on one years ago as a work colleague had a vine growing over his shed. Gave me a few kilo of very tart sour grapes. I mashed them up in boiling water and let them sit to cool down. Waited for any bugs to float to the top. Strained the lot onto a sugar...

    Carrot mead

Took all the carrot peelings out and blended them with an egg some flour and a generous spoon of peanut butter. Spread it all on a tray and it's baking now. Good for me and the doggo apparently

    Carrot mead

I've got mangrove jacks mead yeast staring at me in the fridge. It's supposed to treat 23 litres so just going to open in, sprinkle a little. Seal back up in cling film and put back in the bag of yeasts in the fridge.

A Septic's Trip to the UK

Try Torquay on your travels too. Lived there for a year. Crab from Brixham is lovely. The weather is generally mild. Known as the English riviera. They even have palm trees!
