    Christmas beer ideas

Got a Mangrove Jacks Orange & Cinnamon Wit yo make up. A bit lighter it terms of ABV than some of the other suggestions, but not a fan of high ABV beers. Just a nice hint of Christmas flavours.

    Festival German Weiss

Split the pack down (get bored drinking same beer all the time so like to make smaller batches) and brewed 10 pints with in my old Pinter 1 under pressure then bottled, tastes fantastic just like Weiss should, just a little darker as you would expect from extract. Very vigorous fermentation...

Brew Books - What's On Your Shelf??

@foxy interesting, had a lot of info on the discussion board that just doesn’t chime with my own personal experience with both types of brewing pressurised and non and what is being reported elsewhere. Each to there own.

Brew Books - What's On Your Shelf??

@foxy interesting thanks for the reply. Don’t quite understand his response, I would say why not there are certainly benefits for some styles or for certain environmental conditions that a brewer may have to contend with?

    Disabled brewer seeking advice

@fireworkmaster I can send you an Excel spreadsheet I used to estimate my water requirements when I was doing small batch brews. You will need to estimate your evaporation rate or just use the value I got using a large stock pot.

    Going back to kits?

Been a bit short on time recently changing jobs, etc and was getting low on beet so made up a Mangrove Jacks’ Helles. Brewed in fermentation chamber at 18C initially then up to 20C for diacetyl rest. It turned out way better than I could have hoped. Compared it against a commercial beer and the...

Brew Books - What's On Your Shelf??

@granch72 I am going to go out on a limb here, perhaps brewing heresy and would agree John’s book is highly informative it is getting a little dated and has failed to keep up with some of the developments in home brewing. Scratches the surface on BIAB, no mention of pressurised fermentation (as...

    Anna's Brewdays

Having completed 3 degrees during my career, 2 full-time: BSc Mechanical Engineering and MSc in International Relations, plus one part-time MSc in Military Aerospace & Airworthiness, I told my wife if I look like I am going near another degree to shoot me. The final one was quite a slog over 5...

    Grainfather

The MaltMiller sell a replacement pump for £119 if all else fails, gives you another option. I bought a 2nd hand G30 for £250 this year and upgraded to the new controller for £100. If you got a new pump for yours you could keep it or sell it for £300...

    Anna's Brewdays

Anna I believe you live in Stirling. If that is the case do you have a water report? I am fairly new to brewing so water adjustment isn’t something I have tinkered with yet. I assume it depends on the style of beer you are brewing, but thus far the beer has tasted fine, but could it be even better?

What do you stand your Kettle /Brewzilla / Grainfather /Brewtools etc on?

I put mine on an old B&D Workmate. Works very well nice & stable.

    GAS bbq...

I cut a spud in half spray it with oil and rub that across the grill, stops the food sticking.

    Hi from Scotland.

Tony, welcome from Stirling from a fellow Sassenach. Started off with kits, did a BBS brew and then was lucky enough to buy a 2nd hand Grainfather G30. A great hobby.

Luddite asking for Technical advise on Ispindels?

Thanks, sounds like a matter of personal preference plus character you are aiming for. I have found my iSpindel to be pretty accurate vs a regular hydrometer. That said you can use relative readings as what I am looking for is the progress of the fermentation as indicated by the shape of the...

Luddite asking for Technical advise on Ispindels?

Sorry newbie question, so using the iSpindel what stage are you looking for in fermentation to dry hop, 50% attenuation?

    Hello from Forres, Moray

Mick as @The-Engineer-That-Brews says all grain brew in a bag is a great way to get into ‘proper’ brewing with minimal outlay & great results.
