    My Fermzilla has landed

Brew underway. Youngs Harvest Pilsner lager kit 20L Tesco mineral water 10g Youngs lager yeast ( the kit comes with ale yeast, but I wanted a true bottom fermenter) Fermenter pressurised with CO2 Spunding valve set at 15psi. Room is a constant 16c all year round. Early Tues morning I am flying...

    Newbie question regarding fermentation

What you have to ask yourself is "How did the brewers of old manage?" they neither had fridges nor accurate thermometers.

    My Fermzilla has landed

I'd been dithering for a while and this last week decided to bite the bullet and go for it, I'll be starting my first pressure brew in a day or so, I'll keep this thread updated

    My Fermzilla has landed

Same, I read a few bad things about them but I also read about people who had overcome the issues. Since I resolved mine it's been sat there at 15psi with no drop in pressure and no drop in water levels so I reckon that's it, it's passed the pressure test and I will start my brew off on Monday...

Forced carbonation - is there a trick to this?

I get my CO2 from Adams gas, very happy with them, I get it delivered direct from Adams because I really can't be arsed to drive to the nearest suppliers. Works out at £33 with the VAT for the refill and delivery.

    My Fermzilla has landed

That's odd cos the tube of keg lube I have here states petroleum jelly as an ingredient. Maybe it's just a typo?

    My Fermzilla has landed

Sexual lubricants such as KY.. you guys do know they are water based right? and you do know that water based lubricants will dissolve in water, right? And brewing pressures, I read a couple of older Fermzilla threads where some suggested you brew at 35psi.. you're brewing beer not making a...

    My Fermzilla has landed

A quick email exchange between me and the supplier and the problem is sorted, it was my fault, I was doing the collection bottle up too tightly causing the seal to deform, it only needs hand tightening then a very small bit of tightening with the tool. Now at 15psi and holding steady :)

    Gas Leak.

Do you fill your kegs with CO2 before racking the beer? CO2 is heavier than air so what I do is to "pressure test" a keg before filling it then if it passes, take the lid off and fill with beer straight away, O2 is your enemy, the more of it that gets into your beer the more chance of "off"...

    My Fermzilla has landed

Yeah I have some PTFE tape around here somewhere, I'll give that a go later. I can see the problem though, on the collector the thread isn't complete it has 5 breaks in it, I assume to account for expansion and that's exactly where the leaks are. In among the bits is a jiffy bag marked "new...

    My Fermzilla has landed

I put the collector in the fridge overnight, fitted it this morning and I was right, it had expanded because today it did all the way up, however it is still leaking and it's as tight as I can get it.

    My Fermzilla has landed

You do know that the primary ingredient in keg lube is petroleum jelly don't you?

    My Fermzilla has landed

And we have a failashock1 As soon as I opened the butterfly valve the tub filled with water then leaked everywhere, from the seal and from the feed connections. Feed connections easily sorted, undid them, used vaseline, redid them and they stopped leaking, however the seal, well that's a...

    My Fermzilla has landed

It arrived partially assembled, or so the instructions claimed. What that actually meant was the butterfly valve and seals were in place but not tightened. First thing I did was to take it all apart and generously lube evey seal with vaseline (IMHO the best and cheapest food grade lube) and put...

    Kegerator. ish..

To save me looking at dozens of websites and going to Curry's and measuring lots of fridges, can anyone suggest a make and model number of a small larder fridge that will hold 2 x Corny kegs? I will be converting it into a kegerator.

    What did you brew today?

Just starting another Coopers Real Ale. Using 11g Nottingham yeast instead of the Coopers one. 1.2kg Vinclasse Brewing sugar. This is rapidly becoming my "Go To" brew, easy to brew and at this time of year doesn't need chilling so can be fermented, racked into a keg for priming/conditioning...

    What are you drinking tonight.

I'm on my 3rd pint of Coopers real ale. It came out at 3.92% ABV..and quite a tasty brew into the bargain.
