Saw this beasty yesterday. Shield bug I think. Anyone know if they do any damage? I just moved it off. Also a beautiful Chinook come. Not quite ready.

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

For a new plant leave them up for a few months. Will help get nutrients into the rhizome for next year.

    Growing Hops-Downy Mildew?

Thx Terry. I think I caused this when I sprayed last week. I think the solution was too strong that I used or the fact the Sun was still out. Otherwise I have removed the dodgy leaves and plant has recovered.

    Growing Hops-Downy Mildew?

Cheers Terry. I have 6 plants. One ruined by insects. Others are wilting slightly. I was wondering if I watered with too much soapy water and that’s why I am seeing the leaves so damaged. Thx for the tip on black fly. I was looking for traditional greenfly. Been out in Garden today and they...

    Growing Hops-Downy Mildew?

Burrs are growing. I have lots of burrs growing. I had some other lower leaves turning yellow and trimmed them off. Will have a look higher. From the ground it looked similar. Some of the plants totally eaten by insects. Will post today of higher leaves.

    Growing Hops-Downy Mildew?

Hello all I have been growing hops for 4 years now and this year with all the rain I have had noticed more insects (although fewer aphids) and also I am seeing this happening to the leaves. I am thinking Downy Mildew. Any thoughts? CJ

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

I will check this weekend. Was thinking of putting my twine up last weekend but too cold and wet. I checked some a couple of weeks ago and had about 6 shoots on one plant coming up. What did you reduce them to? What does “over wintered” mean? Sounds bad!

    Empty CO2 Canister

Hello I bought a empty co2 canister. It doesnt have any test certificate on it and the more I read about it I have nowhere to get it filled up. Most seem to do a free leased model (with deposit) and refill price. Any ideas? Otherwise a waste of £20. Thanks CJ

    Preserving fresh hops

I tried using a food dehydrator. Turned out ok. Not great. It was a tiered tower-6 shelves-bottom shelf hottest and top shelf cold. Froze some of these after putting co2 in the bag and squeezing out o2.

    Preserving fresh hops

Last week I put a load in a card board box and used a dart to punch lots of holes in it. To let air in and out. Then I got a fridge shelf and put it on a heat pad. Put box on the shelf on its side Then kept turning the box every so often. Seem to work and dried them out. No sure if this is ideal...
