Full volume mash with no sparge for 75 minutes?

I just add the grains as stated in the recipe. I think the volume of water I am using results in the high OG. I am so careful to hit my OG that I think I am putting in too little water. I recently brewed a Wainwright Gold Mashing at 66 C for 75 minutes. My full volume water was 17.5L and...

Full volume mash with no sparge for 75 minutes?

I have to say something about efficiency. I use a Peco boiler for mashing wrapped in insulating foil and covered at the top. The boiler is in standby for the mash so not overheating. My first brew in the Peco with a 75 minute mash turned out at 1070 OG rather than the 1060 estimated OG. I...

Full volume mash with no sparge for 75 minutes?

Yes, I am doing BIAB. I have just edited my post to say that the Dead Pony is mashed for 75 minutes at 62%

Full volume mash with no sparge for 75 minutes?

Following instructions, I usually do a full volume no sparge mash at 75 minutes for a recipe that requires a 60 minute mash. I assume the extra 15 minutes is to replace the “no sparge” However, my next brew is the Dead Pony Club and that requires a 75 minute mash at 62% followed by the sparge...

    Golden Ale Recipe or Similar?

S05 is usually used for the American IPA style to allow the hops to shine. Which liquid yeast did you use as an alternative to the one in the recipe?

    Golden Ale Recipe or Similar?

Thanks. I'm considering this Galaxy ale for a future brew. I only do 11.5L brew so I too will not buy the Malt Miller kit. Like you, I would like to use a different yeast. I use dry yeast and was wondering about fermentis S05. What do you think?

    Proper Job

I've seen Proper Job recipes with exactly the same ingredients including hops, but they specify a 90minute boil. Any idea why they would suggest such a long boil time? Seems quite long to me.

    Golden Ale Recipe or Similar?

Thanks. Very helpful. I am willing to try this, but I have a reservation that you may be able to help me with. I saw a review of this kit that gave me the impression there wasn’t much bitterness and that made it true to the style. However, 18.5g Challenger - 60min boil and 21.5g Hallertau...

    Golden Ale Recipe or Similar?

Thanks for your response. I would like to brew this, but I am only equipped for 11.5L batches. The give the ingredients on their site, and the hop additions are useful, I can just half them as I always do with 23L recipes, but they do not give the timings. So, I am not totally sure which one is...

    Golden Ale Recipe or Similar?

Does anyone have a Wainwright’s Golden Ale recipe or something similar? I am looking for Wainwright but I would be willing to try any English Golden Ale.

"Middle Flavour" Hops in Punk IPA

I am soon to brew a Brewdog Punk IPA. The recipe calls for Chinook and Ahtanium “middle flavour”. Would this literally mean in the middle of the boil i.e. 30 minutes? I am used to flavour hops going in for the last 15 or 10 or 5 minutes?

Will dry hopping be worth it for me?

I followed your advice on an alternative to dry hopping and it worked well for my Citra Smash. You say, “A good dose of hop at somewhere between 20 and 5 minutes and a flameout amount having cooled to 80C is giving me better beers with long lasting hop flavours”. Does that “good dose” mean...

No hop strainer in Peco EB1D mashing and boiling bin

Sorry to trouble you on this again. As I look at the Peco it looks like the positioning of the element might not allow for the fitting of a strainer. My Peco is the EB1D not the older version. What do you have? Does the strainer clear the element? What size is your strainer 6" or 12"?

No hop strainer in Peco EB1D mashing and boiling bin

I assume the collar works fine without the hop strainer. Also, did you have to enlarge the hole on the Peco to fit the tap into?

No hop strainer in Peco EB1D mashing and boiling bin

I'm thinking of buying the stainless steel tap on ebay that you recommended. I notice there is no hexagon nut. How do you fix it on? Also, do you remain happy with yours? I am anticipating problems with the tap that came with the Peco.

Alternative to Special B Malt for milk stout

I am preparing to brew a milk stout. One of the ingredients is Special B Malt. My supplier doesn't appear to stock this so I am wondering what an alternative would be.

Best Malt for Brewdog Punk IPA clone

True. I suppose it is down to taste and personal preference, but Brewdogs own recipe must be respected.
