    All Grain too sweet

I have to go to a family celebration right now so I am going to pause this conversation and return to it maybe tomorrow.

    All Grain too sweet

My final gravity is exactly as stated in the instructions, but my original gravity is usually higher than stated in the instructions. E.g. Original gravity 1.051, actual 1.054. However, in one of the brews the actual original gravity was lower than the desired.

    All Grain too sweet

I am still a learner in all grain brewing and because of that I am using 11L all grain kits that I get from a supplier. That means I am unable to to supply recipes. I trust that the ones I am purchasing are correct in their proportions and instructions.

    All Grain too sweet

I have now completed five 11L batches of all grain beer using brew in a bag. I would say they are all lacking balance as they are too sweet and lacking in bitterness. Can anyone tell me what the possible causes might be?

Finings and shelf life of beers

I have heard that using finings such as Irish Moss in the boil prolongs the shelf life of beers. So should I always include finings? By how long will finings reduce shelf life?

    Brew in a Bag Efficiency

Overnight mash. Do you mean mashing for an hour and then leaving the wort in the pot overnight? If so, is the bag still in the pot overnight? At what temperature would you leave it? Would it mean simply bringing the wort to the boil next day for an hour and adding hops at set times?

    Brew in a Bag Efficiency

Thanks for the correction. Of course, adding more grain or less water makes up for lack of efficiency. I am thinking of 1 litre less water for an 11 litre brew. Would you advise 1 litre less?

    Brew in a Bag Efficiency

I understand that efficiency can be increased when brewing in a bag by adding extra grain. Does it also work by adding less water to end up with slightly less beer?

Make my own immersion wort chiller

I want to make an immersion wort chiller. I already have sufficient copper pipe for this, but a video I watched advised using "Food Grade" copper pipe. Is this really necessary or will the copper pipe I already have do just as well?

    Boil pot size

I don't see any 20L pots on ebay under £40.00. Anyone know where I can get one cheaper?

    Boil pot size

Would a 15 litre boil pot be adequate for the pre-boil volume ending with 11litres of wort?

New venture into brew in a bag

I've had a search around but I'm still not clear what "dunking" is. At the moment I think I will simply remove the bag from the pot and drop it into a bucket. Then I will pour water over the grain inside the bag until I reach the right amount or wort for boiling. That doesn't sound like...

New venture into brew in a bag

I have already done a couple of 1 gallon all grain brews but now want to move to 2 gallon. To make this easier I feel I should use the brew-in-a-bag method, but I have a couple of questions. 1. How do I prevent the bag from scalding when turning up the heat for "mash out"? 2. I have used a...
