Newbie brewer who is super confused

I don't have the gear for a split. Just the one Bubble (my fv). As mentioned before, I know time is tight but events conspired so that I could only brew this past Saturday, so I will just have to wait and see.

Oh yes, no bottling until I am convinced that it has done what it needs to do in stage one. The condition/maturing stage all I can do is put myself in the hands of the guy who gave me the recipe, and hope! As said, if it doesn't work the Bourbon is pretty nice and I have another box set brew in...

Newbie brewer who is super confused

Yeah, I was concerned about that. The guy I have been speaking with used S-04 yeast though and said he actually bottled after two weeks, and two weeks later it was ready. I will just have to take the gravity and see where we are in a week or so, and keep my fingers crossed! I have a few bottles...

Yes I am really, really not sure on the Dates idea! Love ginger, that is certainly one I could go with. As you say, I just have to tread carefully. I wonder if I should go either a) orange and cloves or b) Ginger, nutmeg and Cinnamon. I think using all five would be too much, but I guess I have...

Hi guys! Apologies for the lack of updates (I am sure you have all been dying to find out how it's all been going!) Anyway I did the Bourbon Porter in October and it worked out very nicely! I have then been searching around for a simple-ish Christmas Ale recipe and got one via reddit, where a...

It came with the kit I was given as a gift, so I just went ahead and used it. Neighbour had one as well, so I used his when we couldn't get the one I was given to siphon properly.

I am a bit baffled as to why it happened, as we used two different siphon tubes and gadgets, the liquid didn't seem gassy, and we had the fv on the worktop and the bottles on the kitchen floor (well on a small stool my kid uses). I tried, my wife tried and later on the father in law gave it a...

It wasn't filling up with bubbles, it wasn't filling up with anything. The liquid would not get over the top of the first part of the siphon, just halfway up and no further. Anyway, that was the first brew which was bottled, and drunk with decent results so there wasn't a fermentation issue...

Newbie brewer who is super confused

Hey guys! So I bottled my second brew on Sunday. Got six and a half bottles out of this one, which is a couple more than last time. Siphoning went much better this time, so I assume the issues with batch one were down to their being less liquid in the fv, so there wasn't able to be enough...

Ok that's great, thanks. I do have a Hydrometer but I messed up trying to get a measurement on this brew so don't have the info. Will make sure I do that for brew three! Sounds like another week for this brew in the fv will be fine though, thanks for making me feel better!

Newbie brewer who is super confused

Morning all! So yesterday was, in theory, bottling day for brew two. Has been a fortnight since brew day. I couldn't do it yesterday as need the wife to help and out little one is having a bit of a time of it lately so we were otherwise engaged. It is possible I we can do it on an evening...

Newbie brewer who is super confused

Ok great, I have copied that and emailed it to myself for when i hopefully graduate to a bigger kettle etc. Thankyou! And thanks for the book advice DCBC. I have added that to my Amazon wishlist, and as the other half loves Bake Off (I do enjoy it tbf) then I might be able to swing that one as...

Thanks for the responses everyone. I will look into Apache program and at the same time I am going to get a notebook. Seems prudent!

Thanks guys, I will look into Google Docs and if not I will just go get a notebook. Only worry I have with the notebook is I leave it on the bench and then, like the recipe with the last brew, a boilover means it is wrecked!

That sounds like a plan, will see if I can find a good file system for Android as will have my phone on me whilst doing brews so maybe best to have it on that. Then I can add the details as they happen.

Thanks very much. I will try and log that name as well, as it will come up for each brew! How do people log their brew day activities? Just a notebook? Both these brews have had different things happen to them so thinking I should get organised before I forget about what happened!

First brew success! Hi guys, cracked open a bottle of my first brew at the weekend. it was a Chinook IPA recipe and despite my (and my friend's) trepidation and expectation that it would be total garbage, it tasted pretty good. "Bit blown away by this mate, I thought it would be awful" was the...

I think I am going to come back with multiple questions on that recipe, as still learning the lingo! So the actual boil was eight litres (two for the steeping, two for rinsing and then added four litres after that)?

Thanks, I did miss the "half" on the first brew and lobbed the whole packet in, so will be interesting to see the difference this time!
