    Swapzies

Anyone fancy some swappery? I have a nice wild blaeberry and raspberry kettle sour wit thing. A kitchen sink porter x2 A funky old barley wine An 18 months old funky Brett lambicish brown thing. Pretty great, if you like slightly sour, sour cherry and horse leather type flavours. (I'd want...

    Guinness are at it again...

Who would have imagined that a pseudo national product with a large marketing team served to drunks with personal affiliation to particular establishments would develop a legend about its local superiority... Makes me wonder if we might be seeing the birth of a religion

    Guinness are at it again...

The reason for the difference is Irish magic TM. That and the subjective nature of taste and the malleability of the human mind and the desire to confirm what you have been told. Similar phenomenon to Scottish drinkers insisting on Tennant's lager over any of the other 99 percent identical...

    Guinness are at it again...

Oh you just have to try their beer in Ireland, it's completely different, totally amazing and fantastical with magic in. It's to do with the magic elves and leprechaun juice they infuse it with over there. Unlike the dull pond water used in the rest of the world.

    Man size.

The world has been batshit crazy for ever. We were used to how it was. Any country that still insists on having separate hot and cold taps at opposite sides of the sink needs to take a long hard look at itself in the mirror. And then stop.

First they came for our privileges, and we said nothing, next they came for the name of our tissues and we said nothing, finally they told us to do the dishes, but by then it was too late as we had all been rendered ineffectual sexless emasculated drones, and the EU had banned everything, and...

Hedgerow Hops Pale Ale? - Beer Numero Uno

Looking at your beer it looks like it will drop pretty clear to me. I would advise just bottling and cooling the bottles though. Sitting in the shed with fluctuating temperature will draw in O2 to the bucket and possibly worse. Would be a damn Shame to lose a good beer in the name of clarity.

    stir plates

Best part is you feel like a scientist, mad or otherwise, especially if you have a conical flask or "Erlenmeyer flask" if you need to up the science levels even more. Commence mad laughter and shouting it's alive! Only when you see first signs of activity.

    Fermentation and Yeast

Yeast nutrient is a good idea for new pitches of yeast. (Although who knows, I'm no scientist) Liquid yeast will often need a starter for high strength/old packets. Starters are a minefield but plenty info out there. Mr malty will keep you right.

Under-25s turning their backs on alcohol.

I'm the first generation that thinks kids are too well behaved in this day and age. They should be out hooliganising and setting fire to old people but instead they just sit about quietly. Pathetic. Way too tolerant for my liking too.

    Using half yeast

I don't think you need worry about splitting it. If you have one of those clip things especially. Wouldn't keep it for ever, but given that it's initially sterile and dry there shouldn't be too much chance of anything growing in it. You could also overpitch without problems

    Budget DO meter.

Have you met the it factor rabbit with its magical elusive malt flavoured tail? Or just more sulphur? I started down the hole for a bit when I recalled that I never found anything special about German Beers and that all my beer tends to be drunk by a month or two after brew... I'm very careful...

    Yucky plastic aftertaste :(

Never had plastic taste from Young's buckets but had other issues with them. Also am very sensitive to plastic flavour, had to go through a bunch of tubing to stop getting it. Not using hose pipe or anything weird to boil in? My advice is to get a few corny kegs from the home brew company for...

What’s the worst f*ck up you’ve ever done at work?

Working in a jazz bar a black American guy with a white girl came in and asked how much a San Miguel was but I heard "sambucca", and so when I replied "black or white?" And he confusedly asked why it made a difference, and I was like well it's more expressive for the black, just how it is...

North sea bridges beer Collab review

Being a big fan of fyne Ales I stopped in at the brewery the other day and picked up a multi pack of collaborations between Scottish and Scandinavian breweries that sounded interesting. http://www.fyneales.com/shop/beers/mixed-case%3A-north-sea-bridges-series-one Unfortunately beer after beer...
