    First attempt mistakes

You find something that you really enjoy doing so why would you have a major part of the process behind closed doors! I know exactly what my garden looks like but I still enjoy having a window in my house to look out onto it.

Help starting up. Best place to buy?

I have never heard of Wilko before! Need to get out more, sounds interesting!

Brew Pump - Anyone got one of these?

Other things to consider are, how easy will it be to take apart to clean it and how well does it prime (brewing is constant on, off, clean, empty, not like a fish pond pump which is on for extended periods). The 521 which is rated for hot liquids only states 90 degrees max too so even that one...

What are you drinking tonight 2020.

    It’s a whisky night tonight.

    First attempt mistakes

I’m going to get a name for myself on this forum about harping on about clear fermenters but...... I can’t recommend them enough! I haven’t been able to shake not having a clear fermenter 10+ years on!

Lazy brewing. Adding hops to kits.

Totally do this. Boil 1.5kgs Light DME in 12ltrs water for an hour and add bittering, taste and nose hops at your discretion. Add another 1 to 1.5kg DME in the last 15, cool and add to your fermenter to make 23 ltrs of IPA style beer of your making. (Pitching yeast obviously which is another...

    What kind for fermentation bucket

The one that @Chippy_Tea has posted a picture of is a Bigger Jugs (i think). I have one, good quality bucket...didn't seal the last time I used it so had no activity on the bubbler. Fermented fine though.

    St peter’s Golden Ale.

Pretty much exactly what I use that Way to Amarillo extract recipe for. Great base for messing about with.

    Birds in my garden

The more interesting ones... Great spotted woodpecker Common pheasant Red legged partridge Buzzard Sparrowhawk Heron (eating the maturing tadpoles out the pond for its breakfast!) Just as I posted this, the Buzzard landed on the fence

    Robobrew vs Hopcat

It's kind of the reason I started the post. Hopcat is better value but Robobrew seems to have a better reputation but i'm not sure if that reputation is purely based on support being more readily available or more people having one. A mate with a microbrewery replaced his broken Grainfather...

    St peter’s Golden Ale.

Personally this is one of my favourite (and simplest) extract thirst quenchers. You can get kits of the same name from BrewUK... https://brewedbyus.com/recipes/70-single-hop-amarillo-ipa/

    Braumeister 20 Low Mash Efficiency

@Trapdoor If you're brewing with London water, maybe also consider a water test. Something like the below. Also, if you search for your local water authority you should be able to download a report with a lot of the details you'd need to plug into a water calculator (but not all)...

    Confused by Elderflower 'Champagne'

On a side note, just totally agree about Elderflour Champagne. Made some last year and it was fantastic. Used Hugh Fearnley's River Cottage recipe. Totally making some this year again!

Any kits similar or close to brewdog punk ipa?

There's also the official kits... https://www.brewuk.co.uk/punk-pack.html

Any kits similar or close to brewdog punk ipa?

Just use something like Beersmith to adapt volumes if needed however here's the recipe, no need for a kit. https://brewdogrecipes.com/recipes/punk-ipa-2010-current

    Braumeister 20 Low Mash Efficiency

I wouldn't get too hung up about efficiency unless your efficiency is constantly fluctuating. If your efficiency is reasonably consistent at around 67% then go with it. Your beer should be consistent. Don't stress about a few % points. Does your beer taste good?

Using GF recipes on other kit?

Try Brewmate or Brewtarget they are both free. Also pretty sure Brewers Friend you can use free but there's a save limit or something. Someone on here will know, I don't use it.
  18. QED

Using GF recipes on other kit?

If you use the brew calculators on things like Brewers Friend or Beersmith, that should calculate your volumes for you.
