    Apollo and Galaxy substitutes

Theres a few of these around on the web if you google 'hop substitution table' or similar: https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/how-to-brew/hop-substitutions/ Worth checking a few different tables for a concensus of substitutes for your particular hops.

    Malt miller brew kettle

Always exciting receiving deliveries of new shiny equipment. I've always found deliveries from the MaltMiller to be very quick to arrive - hope they do land ahead of your brewday, and enjoy !

    Storing yeast

You can store/re-use dry yeast in wet form (from top cropping during fermentation or harvesting some trub) but to be honest if you are always doing larger batches for the price of a new sachet each time personally I think harvesting/re-using dry yeast is more bother than its worth - just use a...

    Spapro's Brewdays

Thanks AJ, I will contact you for your address by private message in November, first time I've done a berry addition so hope it works out OK, tasted a little tart/sharp before bottling but clearly this should mellow in time for November fingers crossed.

    Spapro's Brewdays

Bottled My Blackberry Oatmeal Stout on Sunday, photo below of the bottle, more like a brown ale with a pink/red tinch to it - nice colour really. Also, the Mongrel Pale Ale from post #13 is now very drinkable, nice hoppy pale ale - very similar to the Campden Pale Ale I was drinking out on...

    Malt miller brew kettle

I use either/both - probably more leaf than pellet overall as leaf are usually cheapest when ordering supplies. The bazooka hop filter from the maltmiller copes with either leaf or pellet for me - never had an issue with blocking or the filter letting a lot through when transferring out into...

    Stuck Fermentation suspected? Ideas?

Which 2 yeasts have you used and when did you add each ? What temperature has your brew been fermenting at ? First thing to try would be to move the bucket somewhere a bit warmer if its somewhere cool - assuming ale yeast usually 20°C or thereabouts is about right. Has it got much cooler...

    Starsan Questions.

I use starsan with tap water and it always goes a little milky once mixed. As long as your PH is 3 or below for your mixed solution then its all good, cloudiness per se isn't an issue - its all about the ph. Worth getting a little booklet of ph test papers, couple of quid off ebay, so you can...

    A little advice please

If its a regular pressure barrel (cheaper one or king keg) you add a small amount of priming sugar into the keg (80-100g for 22litres ish). Leave it somewhere warm (18-20°C) to carb up for 2 weeks, then somewhere cooler for a couple of weeks to condition then drink. You only inject more CO2...

    Malt miller brew kettle

I've got a 33l and 50l pot from the maltmiller, very nice quality - they are both Bergland from Germany and should last year's. I've added peco elements to mine so can't comment on induction hob suitability, will be great on gas though! The bazooka filter works really well for me

    Black sheep

When I was doing kits it was on my list but then York Brewery stopped doing the kits and you couldn't get them. I've moved on to all grain so not done kits since they re-listed their kits so not tried any of theirs. Good luck with your search, hope you find something similar to black sheep buddy.

Pleased yours turned out well Chub, first time I've added fruit to a brew so bit of a new adventure for me. Hope mine turns out good!

    FG a little high?

Not done that kit and now all grain but - its probably done, I would ramp the temp up a couple of degrees - I would go to 20 - 21°C for 2-3 days to encourage the yeast to finish things off and clean up after itself. Even if it sticks at 1016 you've still got 5.1% ABV so not too bad. I found...

    Spapro's Brewdays

Syphoned the Blackberry Stout into a clean FV vessel last night leaving the blackberry mush/trub behind - this is definately more of a brown ale than a full blown stout based on colour. The 2.2kg of blackberries added 4 gravity points of fermentation - after adding blackberries wort SG was at...

    Black sheep

Not done it but worth considering York Brewery 'Terrier' kit - should be of similar ilk to Black Sheep Bitter http://www.home-brew-online.com/beer-kits-c1/york-brewery-terrier-bitter-kit-p215 Hope this helps

    Amount of Yeast Required

A stainless steel soup ladle from the kitchen - washed and then soaked for a bit in starsan before using. Ladle off into a funnel into a small conical flask, cover the opening of the flask in sanitised foil and allow that to ferment out fully and settle for a week, then pour the full sample...

    Amount of Yeast Required

I would say a 0.8l starter for a full 23litre brewlength is a bit light. I tend to make 1.2 - 1.3l starters for regular strength 23litre brews - I was using 1 litre starters but felt this was underpitching a little at times. So if you can do a 1.8litre starter now you could save 500ml for a...

    Little Bottler Dripping

Mine started doing that and I just twiddled the plunger bit round a bit and seemed to sort it for me. Not dripped since. Maybe you have had a good fiddle already
