    Reducing trub into fermenter

I think the flip side to this is: Science is right, until it is proven wrong Something being scientifically correct is not the same as it being noticable in practice. I couldn't tell you the best beer i have ever drunk, but i can tell you the beers i drink regularly. The quest for perfection...

    Town centres.

Planning departments need to be more forceful with developments as so often things are promised (community centres, play grounds etc) but when it comes to it they find a way round delivering them. A development near me was split into 3 parts. one of the stipulations of the development was a...

    Town centres.

Mothercare are one of the retailers that should have been able to survive as a lot of kids stuff you need to go and look at it, try it out in your car etc. However I think its common for people to go in, try it out and then buy it online whether that's with mothercare or a competitor. I know...

How good is the world's most expensive whisky?

People spend money on what they consider important to the. Friends are paying £100's pounds a month for a new car. Ive never paid more than £2k because i dont see the value in having a new car. As long as it drives and is comfy to me. Look forward to seeing photos of your wagyu for your next...

How good is the world's most expensive whisky?

If I was well off, I could probably convince my self to buy that beef for a special occasion. probably feed 20 people. I have been to Michelin starred restaurants and spend £600+. Other people spend that on tickets to the theatre or to go and watch a sports game.

will boiling water to change water chemisty

Thanks Steve, I will definitely move across to using Campden Tablets. At the moment, I boil all my water to fill up the mash tun anyway, takes a bit of time but its quicker than heating it up in a pan. Would the boil off rate, be the same as the loss of minerals anyway so would balance out?

will boiling water to change water chemisty

Thanks, I have read through this and it kind of makes sense but with the amount of lime scale we get, it was more out of curiosity as to how much it affects the mineral content.

will boiling water to change water chemisty

Hi All, I keep having a reoccuring flavour in all my beers. Its not unpleasant but want to try and reduce it if possible. Having looked at all my brews (using various techniques) I can't seem to find a constant other than potentially the water profile. I live in North Essex so generally...

    Specific flavour in stout

I don't doubt you. Off flavours are just a way of describing flavours that people don't like. diacetyl for example is nothing inherrently wrong. Some styles in a judging sense allow aspects of it. It you wanted Buttery flavours in your beer then you would want it there. Different people...

How good is the world's most expensive whisky?

I don't think there are many things that are worth what you pay for them. Even things like cars, you spend money and all it does is go a bit quicker or be a bit more comfortable. alcohol has the benefit at least of not being able to replicate it which is why vintages mean so much. If I...

    Specific flavour in stout

From a bit of reading i have done, metallic blood flavours can be an off flavour with contamination from metals in the brewing system. Otherwise, often think mineral flavours are probably from water chemistry? Might be worth looking at

    Electing a beer friendly candidate...

Who would Drink driving laws and peoples working lives has meant the traditional pub struggles to function now especially without serving food which then leads to gastro pubs which aren't the same thing at all. Its such a shame and tax puts a nail in the coffin.

On a side note, does anyone know if VAT is applicable on homebrewing ingredients? Surely if biscuits are not VATable, yeast and hops shouldn't be? @Chippy_Tea's first policy as a independent wink...
