    Masterchef signature dish...

Nice big scallops, cooked fairly well ( to me a rare scallop is poor, cooking through quite well develops both texture and flavour in comparison to rare) in a chorizo and/or smoky bacon sauce. Butter in the pan, some garlic and smoky bacon/chorizo fried up, add the scallops and cook for a good...

    Guilty for telling a joke

Very good point. I think protecting free speech is certainly more about protecting those who have been silenced when trying to voice an injustice or such like.

Warsteiner and Bitburger 660ml bottles £1.30

It was bottles! :thumb1: I quite enjoyed it. I really liked hobgoblin before I got in to proper beer, now I wouldn't thank you for it. I'd keep the bottle though.

    Guilty for telling a joke

Does the principle of freedom of speech not essentially come down to uncensored media and the freedom to challenge and petition government? As opposed to for example North Korea, where I believe they aired the final of the last world cup, in which North Korea beat Brazil in the final. Being...

Warsteiner and Bitburger 660ml bottles £1.30

I got some broadside, hobgoblin gold and bishops finger outta Tesco today. Also reduced to clear. All of them were £1 give or take a few pence. I've never tried the hobgoblin gold or bishops finger. Well I'm having a hobgoblin gold right now and its actually quite nice.

    Died in service.

Whilst bottling last Friday, thankfully on the last bottle, the top half of the valve parted from the bottom half. It's a coopers FV I now use as a bottling bucket. I meant to ask actually, has anyone ever blanked the hole for these valves on these fv's? I'm thinking I'll blank it and fit a...

Moving beyond kit brewing, kit advice

I toyed with starting with extract and moving to AG. After looking at reasonable sized pots etc I though it more economical to go straight to AG by spending just shy of a hundred quid on a cool box mash tun, a 60 litre bucket boiler and the necessary fixtures and fittings. This option depends on...

Wiz Oxi powder 2kg for £3 at B&M

Cheers! I'm getting low on the chemipro stuff and don't want to buy again as it was quite expensive. I had reservations about the laundry stuff but I'll give that a go.

Is the laundry stuff not strongly scented?

    Sugar - stupid noob question

If your effeciency is less than hoped for (which is likely in the first few ateempts) you could put some brewing sugar in to bump up the points to what the OG is supposed to be. I've never bothered but I'd be worried about adding too much, maybe about 5 points. Again, I've never done it so can't...

    Sugar - stupid noob question

Some recipes call for sugar additions and some don't. I've never added any sugar to my AGs. There are certain styles that use sugar though. If its not on the recipe you don't it need it

    Worth a punt?

Has anyone received their grainmill yet? I don't need or want one but I'm half tempted for a fiver! How much do they normally fetch? 49.80 maybe?

Wine Prices to increase as much as 30%

The Mrs likes her Marlborough sauvignon blanc. She doesn't tend to drink owt else other than magners the odd time. I've never made a wine but wouldn't mind trying it. More for her than me, it'll save us forking out 7-9 quid a bottle, which is the part I like. Can any winemakers recommend a...

What S/C Ratio's have you brewed with??

Me too. Maybe in 15 years when the kids are up. Til then I'll stick with what comes out the tap. Like so many other variables in brewing I'd be really interested to taste a "water treated" brew side by side with a "tap water" brew. All other variables equal.
