When does a beer stop fermenting...?

If you get consistent gravity readings over 2/3/4 days then fermentation has stopped. Provided the temperature hasn't suddenly dropped and stayed low or indeed ramped right up and stayed up, the consistent gravity readings indicate that the yeast have finished. It is good to leave it the fv for...

    Dry hopped white wine

So I got this one underway a few days ago. 4l white grape juice 2 cans gooseberries in light syrup Strong tea 1 tsp bentonite 50g sugar. The OG was 1.070 but that's with gooseberries floating on top and sugar still trapped within them. I'm away for 3 weeks on Tuesday so will try a sample when...

Advice sought for a foolproof recipe

I forgot to mention the bag option. Haven't tried it myself but that was the next port of call if the braid and batch sparge didn't work. From the sounds of things it's not a recipe you need but just some tweaks to your system and a bit of practice with it to work out its quirks etc.

Advice sought for a foolproof recipe

Sparging was an issue for me at the beginning. I ditched my bazooka filter from the tun and replaced it with braided hose which does s fantastic job. I also gave batch sparging a go and it worked out well so I've stuck with it and am getting consistent effeciency and volumes every time. I had...

    New hop farm in town

Is blast freezing wet hops an option? Or does that mean that they're not wet any more? It also makes logistics difficult and probably considerably more expensive as well though.

    Dry hopped white wine

One for the winos, I still haven't attempted a wine as yet and was thinking of doing a supermarket juice as recommended by chippy. However, I just can't see it being a winner with swmbo. Not that she'll dislike it, just that shed rather have here usual marlbrough sav blanc. It's the...

    First liquid yeast.... recommendations?

Initially I was going to to this recipe twice. One with flaked barley and one with flaked wheat for a head retention comparison. As I'm down to half a kilo of base malt and will be putting in an order, I'm thinking of doing it as above for one and with pilsner/lager as the base for the other. In...

    First liquid yeast.... recommendations?

Negotiation - not going to happen! Don't take it? Alternative?

    First liquid yeast.... recommendations?

I only put it in to get rid of it really. It's doing any harm in the barrel. I done a couple of similar recipes a couple of months apart, one with carapils and one without. I never noticed much difference in them. Do you think carapils brings much to the party in your experience? Maybe go 250g?

    First liquid yeast.... recommendations?

Thanks for the recommendations! I had a flick through and thought either Yorkshire, London or ringwood.

    First liquid yeast.... recommendations?

All of the above For this brew which is a new type of style for me, I'd be pleased with good body (higher mash temp) and a balance between malt and hops. I've not used either hop and I would like to determine what they bring to the party. I do like a floral type aromas and do tend to like hop...

The rise of the middle age renter.

Therefore, in the vast majority of private rentals, due to the supply/demand you must agree to the terms which offer little stability, choose to live somewhere (who knows where) where you can get an agreement for 10 or 20 plus years or choose homelessness. You are trying to say it's the renters...

Which yeast for US IPA from these 3?

Ive used 04 in a couple of IPA type brews, ghost ship type clones, they werent much like ghost ship but pretty tasty. The 04 worked fine and gave good flocculation.

The rise of the middle age renter.

Is it a factor that people want to get themselves set up with a house before settling down to have kids. By the time they've bought a place they're in their mid 30's and have decided that they are too old to have kids? Plus the years of saving to get that house, the mortgage has settled down...

The rise of the middle age renter.

I agree with the daft uni courses. If you're parents can afford it and are willing to pay for you to do these daft courses fair enough. If you're own your own after that to get your life sorted then tough ****. There are lots of problems with the housing market at the minute. There isn't one...

The rise of the middle age renter.

Because you are providing families with homes. Simple as that. Have you ever been evicted from your home after being a good tenant and paying all rent on time? A counter question, why should families not have the right to stability and security in their home?

The rise of the middle age renter.

It's extremely difficult to find a place to begin with. Demand outweighs supply so in most cases there is an application process. The most desirable tenant in the application process is given the tenancy. The chances of finding a place suitable enough and then demanding the landlord signs your...
