    Diacetyl (Butterscotch)

Yes I’ve read that it is masked in malty beers or hoppy beers by the stronger flavours.

    Diacetyl (Butterscotch)

What style of beer did you brew? I’ve just pulled a keg of pale ale out of my kegerator and put it in the fermentation chamber at 22C as I think it might have a hint of butter flavour at the end of the taste. Had it a couple times only when I brew a really pale beer with little hop presence...

Finally got round to using this yeast, made an rye ipa 50% rye 50% marris otter, hopped with Amarillo. Thought I would brew it at the top end temp 22C just to spice things up. Will let you know how it turns out in a few weeks. Jake

    Regulator Questions

Ideally you need your primary regulator, followed by a three way splitter, two of the lines from the splitter to serve both your pale ales, and the third line to have a secondary regulator to be used at a lower pressure when you want less carbonation. my setup has a 4 way splitter off the...

    Robobrew/Grainfather type systems and sparging

So they aren’t quite all in one systems, you have to have a separate water heater, and then pour it over the grain with a jug or something. It must work ok as I seem to get 80% BHE with the GF.

    Robobrew and Grainfather false bottom

I used mine today on my grainfather. It work really well, a pretty good fit, only issue is the ring pull hits the bottom of the grain basket, so had to fit it upside down leaving just the bolt and nuts sticking up to try and pull it out. Can’t have it all

    What did you brew today?

I was wide awake this morning at 2am, so a bit of an Impromptu brewday commenced. It didn’t start very well, when I felt the tug of the bottom seal in the grainfather as I was stirring the grain in. I can’t tell u how much I hate that design. Eventually got it all back on track And Made a lemon...

Mine arrived this week, sadly no time to brew for a while, baby number 2 is imminent!

    Robobrew and Grainfather false bottom

I find that it takes so long to go through the grainbed that the water level just rises at the top, which ends up going down the overflow anyway, never been able to brew with the grainfather without at least 95% of the water going straight down the overflow, I’m interested in how u manage to to...

    Robobrew and Grainfather false bottom

I seem to be prone to blocked pumps with my grainfather, mainly the amount of hops, sometimes the seal at the bottom not being quite right and grain getting through. I ordered one of these from home brew online today, hopefully putting it into practice next weekend, will let u know how I get on

Amarillo Single Hop Ale - Greg Hughes

I used this recipe as a base for one of my own, it’s one of my favourites. The second time I brewed it I upped the flame out hops to 150g and gave it a 50g dry hop. I also added 750g Munich malt. It’s a superb. Definitely don’t reduce the late additions, unless you prefer a more subtle hop flavour.
