Summer Lightning: 6th brew, 2nd BIAB.

Thanks- that's handy! You reckon its been too warm for SO-4, then?

Will you be watching the royal wedding?

Best of luck to both of them, I quite like the pair of them, but I don't really understand why anyone would want to watch a stranger's wedding. But hey, if that's what you're into. I, meanwhile, am on a mission to find a set of deep drive sockets so I can change a car battery. Want to flog it...

    Royal wedding beer?

    "Marlon's Markleous Ale".

    Show us your beer.

And to think my Mrs was moaning because I had 92 bottles...

Summer Lightning: 6th brew, 2nd BIAB.

I gave it a swirl last night, I'll leave it a few days and see what effect that has had. My last BIAB dropped lovely and clear with no help (used SO-5) but this one is very cloudy, basically opaque. I'm wondering if it's because I squeezed the bag this time. I think once I've got a consistent...

Summer Lightning: 6th brew, 2nd BIAB.

Ok, I'll give it a swirl tonight. I have got some Wilkos ale yeast, so I could pitch a packet of that? I bottle.

Summer Lightning: 6th brew, 2nd BIAB.

It was S04, rehydrated and pitched at 23c.

Summer Lightning: 6th brew, 2nd BIAB.

Advice needed please, chaps and chappesses. I took a sample today, almost 2 weeks after pitching. Tatses lovely, but the SG is still quite high, at 1019. More pressingly, it's cloudy as hell. Looks like a wheat beer. I believe you can fine in the FV with gelatin? I have some leaf gelatin in...

    Bargain Kegs £10 Morrisons

They often have the Golden Goblin on as one of those 10 quid mini kegs. Good buy for a summer bbq.

    The Hard Shoulder.

I don't know why you're getting so defensive about this. At no point have I ever suggested that cyclists are regularly hospitalising pedestrians. I am merely sick of idiotic cyclists who believe traffic laws don't apply to them. They exist, we all know they do. I got clipped by one on Thursday...

Summer Lightning: 6th brew, 2nd BIAB.

Finally managed to get my brew on! As it's such a lovely day, I decided to get sunburned while I was at it. I went for the summer lightning clone from The Homebrew Shop. This time, things went well! I squeezed the bag and added a touch extra to the sparge, so ended up with a full 28l boil. I...

    The Hard Shoulder.

We return to my original point: this isn't a good metric for determining the relative number of bike/pedestrian collisions, because a bike is obviously far less likely to kill or seriously injure a pedestrian. That doesn't make it ok to run lights and peddle merrily over pedestrian crossings...

    The Hard Shoulder.

I already acknowledged that the consequences of being hit by a car are far more likely to be serious. You'd have to be an idiot to pretend otherwise. But if you are making the argument that people don't have the right to place others in danger then you have to at least be consistent. You can't...

    The Hard Shoulder.

This is exactly the attitude I'm talking about. As far as the law is concerned it is literally the same offence. And while in a car the consequences are more likely to be fatal, hitting someone on a bike can still seriously injure people. Imagine a cyclist hitting some little old lady tottering...

    The Hard Shoulder.

I hope you don't think I'm throwing stones. I'm not trying to turn this into a competition, let alone pretend motorists are less likely to be idiots. Merely pointing out that comparing the number of people killed by cyclists is not a good indication of how many people cyclists hit.

    Help! Plasticy smell and taste.

Quick question (and sorry if this is hijacking the thread, but it's related): has anyone experienced an off taste using Milton steriliser? It's no rinse, but from the smell of it I'd guess it was chlorine based. The first batch I did using it has an off taste which is hard to pin down, I'm...

    The Hard Shoulder.

Hardly surprising given the relative weight and velocity of a bike compared to a car. I'd be far more interested in knowing how many times cyclists collide with pedestrians over an average year, as opposed to car drivers. I do try not to indulge in that favourite habit of the British motorist...

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

Thanks svenito. I'm reading that it causes calcium to precipitate out, though, which isn't desirable. I may just order a different all grain kit, so I can get some CRS in the same order, and do this one another time.
