    Bottle Carbonation Not Working

Ahh okay! Thanks guys! I've found my kegs carbonate in about 3 days, but maybe I'm just seeing pressure increase from the warm up.

Breweing right now - Have a question

I would suggest trying a single hop IPA for a first attempt. You don't necessarily need to add an expensive mix of hops to get a nice session IPA and it helps you understand the ingrediants you are working with. They can be very nice, try Oakham Citra from Tesco >here<. As others have said you...

    Bottle Carbonation Not Working

Wilko. They sell them in the home brew section. Looking just at the beer, not kombucha, does cold kill the yeast? I thought it just made it go to sleep and it would come back to being active after a day of room temp.

    Bottle Carbonation Not Working

Hi, Recently my wife has been making kombucha and doing secondary fermentation in Wilko flip-top bottles. The first batch, primed with satsuma juice and ginger, came out well. Subsequent batches have not been very fizzy even when adding a few grams of table sugar. Recently I had a bit of stout...

    Your Best DIY Equipment?

So.. I'm not that keen on my stainless bucket and grain bag method anymore! After using it a few times I've found that I need to dump the grains from the bag directly in the bucket because the fabric holds restricts wort flow too much. It takes ages to drain, I have to wait about 10mins between...

    Mint Choc Stout

Ahh crap! I wasnt paying attention and used Safale US-05 yeast instead of Nottingham. Are these particularly different?

    Mint Choc Stout

Sparging now. This beer also includes cocoa nibs 50g added "near end fermentation" but I gotta say they dont taste that strong. Anybody got experience using cocoa nibs this way? Thinking I might use the full 100g pack.

    Mint Choc Stout

I'm planning to brew this one today. https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product/viscount-biscuit-stout/ It simply says "mint flavour to taste at racking" Has anyone done this one and can share what they did for mint? I guess they mean food grade peppermint oil. However I wondered about using...

    What Makes Hazy?

Thanks! I had assumed the boil hops would add most haze as you see the particles. I guess those are much bigger and easier to drop clear.

    What Makes Hazy?

Actually no. IPA used Wilco Gervin. Lager used Mangrove Jacks Bohemian Lager Yeast M84.

    What Makes Hazy?

What makes a beer hazy? I brewed an IPA recently: Lager base malt Caramalt 60g Fuggles (boil) 60g Challenger (boil) 40g each dry hop Even though I use beer finings and cold crash, it's not particularly clear until I let it condition for 4+ weeks. On the other hand, I also have a lager recipe...

Breweing right now - Have a question

Well, I finished this brew - conditioning now. I did use the full remaining 40g Fuggles, 40g Challenger dry hops for 2 days at 14C. When I kegged it, I felt like it could do with even stronger aroma so I actually added 10mL of Citra hop aroma oil (perhaps too much!). The IBU calc said this beer...

    An Ankoù brewday:

I noticed a change in the taste of Punk at the pub a couple weeks ago. I wondered if the shortage of Ahtanum means they will be changing the recipe. I made some with Willamette.

Breweing right now - Have a question

    So I used: 15L Mash @ 66C: 3.5Kg Dingemans Pilsen Malt 0.5Kg Dingemans Wheat Malt 0.5Kg Crisp Caramalt 6L Sparge = 21L Boil Volume 60mins Boil: 10g Fuggles, 10g Challenger @ 60mins remaining 20g Fuggles, 20g Challenger @ 30mins remaining 30g Fuggles, 30g Challenger @ 10mins remaining Should...

    Force carbonation clearing

BUT, when you are able to force carbonate you are also able to filter your beer from fermenter to keg. This removes the yeast as well as the other debris, so rules out secondary fermentation. Clear beer quickly but you need to force carbonate. It's probably also true that conditioning time is...

Breweing right now - Have a question

I have not used an IBU calculator before, I have mainly just followed or tweaked existing recipes. However, I would like to start aiming for particular figures and today I am risking it with my own recipe. Today I am brewing a session IPA. I thought to myself 'how many IBU is Punk IPA, as I...

    And we worry about infection

I have a spray bottle of Star San and give it some up the spout occasionally, but generally I'll be drawing a pint every day.

If you brew that much, are you not tempted to maintain a live culture? My mum does this for baking bread.
