HELP! About to pitch but gone all crazy!

Oh dear. I hadn't received replies at the time, and was drunk, so I pitched it. Worse than that, my STC reckons the wort is at 15.7C!? How? My dining room is at 19! I'll keep an eye out today.

HELP! About to pitch but gone all crazy!

Okay, I brewed AG2 today and it is a Best Bitter, that I hope will be nice! I am using St. Austell Proper Job yeast that was skimmed off by a fellow brewer, who had used it in a stout. Got the thing out of the fridge (about 350ml in a drink bottle) and it has been warming up most of the day...

    Nelson Sauvin for bittering

Cheers guys. I have decided to use Motueka for bitterness and NS for flavour and aroma. We'll see!

    Coleman Xtreme False Bottom Meadurements

Hi! I am hoping to have a false bottom made for my 50qt Coleman Xtreme Mash Tun and wondered if anyone else had done this and could supply me with the internal measurements? They would be very handy!

    Pump Wiring

I just got a solar pump, but haven't opened the box yet. Does it come wired up in any way, or do you need to sort it?

    Nelson Sauvin for bittering

I have a load of Nelson in the freezer and am planning some recipes, but wondered what it was like as a buttering hop? It is rumoured to be a bit rough, but recipes like Full Nelson use it as a single hop throughout. Any anecdotes, suggestions or warnings?!

    Castle pOtO Brewery

I will edit the original entry (now done!) so that 'a little help' reads 'a huge amount of help'. :D Seeing as you did virtually all the drilling! I will pull more weight with the HLT build. It's sitting on the 'brewing platform' (old TV unit with wheels) looking gorgeous today. I love brew...

    Castle pOtO Brewery

Hoorah! Some of you may remember me gearing up to get pots and things A LONG, LONG time ago. Well, last night, with a lot of help from Mr. Lard, I built a 5.5kW boiler out of a 70L SS pot. Hoorah! Just need to borrow the right Q-Max cutter and I can make my HLT after summer hols. I have a...

    Heating Elements

Aye, not cheap indeed! Supposed to be good quality though, and as everyone seems to use them, I will just go with that I reckon! The link takes me to standard kettle elements, so somethings gone awry in the land of the interweb there! Part of the fun though ; )

    Heating Elements

Hi! Well, having not been on the forum much for a while, but finally now getting ready for imminent brewery build, I just wanted to check on heating elements. I have always had The Heating Element Company in mind for these: http://www.heatingelementcompany.co.uk/ ... sp?buy=287 They were...

1st kit - John Bull cider tap or purified water?

Its a cider kit :wha: :wha: chlorine and chloramides are only a problem in beer with hops surely :wha: :wha: Many strains of yeast produce phenols, and unhealthy strains of the ones that don't produce lots can also suddenly kick it out (as can wild yeast from the air that contaminate...

Preperations Before First Use of Equipment

Personally, I wouldn't stick chlorine anywhere near any of my kit - bleach and its derivitives can damage SS if left in contact for more than about 15 minutes. I use HPPA for everything - acetic acid with hydrogen peroxide bonded within it. Dangerous stuff when neat, but once diluted the...

1st kit - John Bull cider tap or purified water?

Tap water is good, and in fact has served brewers for a VERY long time. There are minerals in tap water that are beneficial to yeast. The one thing you don't want in it. however, is chlorine. Treat your water with a campden tablet (I use 1/2 tablet per gallon of water) and after a minute or...

    The French Ebay Seller: catering-supplies-fr

Annoyingly, this might have fitted in the fridge we currently have in our kitchen, if it wasn't for the bloody thermostat that sticks out half-way down the fridge on the right-hand side at a WHOPPING 5.5cm. Arse! Maybe it is stupid to think I can get a 50L stock pot in a fridge. Do you reckon...

    The French Ebay Seller: catering-supplies-fr

Hmmmmm. Actually I reckon handles are going to be more than 3cm out from the base. Tell you what, Mr. Lard, if you can measure the handles on your 38.5L pot that would give me a clue. Please? :D Ta!

First AG Brew! Star-bangled Spanner APA

Forgot to post - but it was done on Monday 14th May! It is currently finishing fermentation and I will bottle it on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing how it turned out!

    The French Ebay Seller: catering-supplies-fr

Well, as an experiment I emptied part of my fridge and measured it up. It was both deep enough and wide enough to accomodate the 40cm pot, with 6 cm to spare in depth - maybe enough to accommodate handles? Who knows. But there seemed to be a glimmer of hope! A standard Youngs FV is 31.5cm and...

    The French Ebay Seller: catering-supplies-fr

I was thinking (money spent on big pot) + (money spent on unmeasured smallish fridge) = waste of money squared! 40cm seems a lot to go in a small fridge anyway, so just got worried about the possibility of another 4 or 5 cm on either side for a pair of handles. We'll see ; ) I am sure I will...

    The French Ebay Seller: catering-supplies-fr

Cool - have contacted them. I just posted about the diameter of plastic FV's.....AND...here's another silly question. How far do the handles stick out on the SS pots that we have been talking about. I am ordering a 50L pot to use as a fermenter and I know they are 40cm in diameter. Trying...
