Fermenting directly in the Grainfather G30

In theory at least, with the right PID settings you should be able to stabilise the process because the PWM control will just send shorter pulses to the large element. I have created temperature and humidity control systems for everything from swimming pools to hotel function rooms and...

Fermenting directly in the Grainfather G30

A lot of these devices use a technique called pulse width modulation to turn the element on and off many times per second. Depending on the error (i.e. the distance from setpoint), the pulses will vary in length. As the error reduces then pulses get shorter. In this way the rapid, variable...

Brewing with 2 GrainFather G30’s-How Would you use them?

A unit is a kilowatt-hour (kWh). So a 1000 watt (1 kW) load running continuously for 1 hour consumes one unit. A 2000 watt (2 kW) load running continuously for half an hour also consumes 1 unit. A 2000 watt (2 kW) load running continuously for 1 hour consumes 2 units etc.

What are you listening to tonight.

A great outfit for sure. I was lucky enough to hear the writer of this song, John Hiatt, perform it in Pistoia, Italy back in 2012. As for Sara Watkins, I've been a little bit in love with her for years due to her work with her brother Sean and mandolin player Chris Thile in their band Nickel...

What are you listening to tonight.

Weather Report - 8:30 Not everyone's cup of tea I grant you, but I played this album non-stop on the old Pioneer cassette player in my beige mark II Ford Escort back in 1982 and I'm feeling nostalic this evening. 😊 Jaco Pastorius... man. This album and Steely Dan/Greatest Hits was all I...

    Show us your guitar(s)

New guitar arrived today. A lovely Gibson CS-336 (on the right) which asthetically looks very much like my Gibson ES-339 (on the left). They are cousins for sure but in terms of construction completely different beasts...

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

We managed to find a little brew pub. They only have one beer on tap at the moment as they are having issues getting hops from the USA. It is a NEIPA. Quite a mango or maybe passion fruit flavour. Excellent mouth feel. A smooth drinkable beer. I will have a few of these…
