    Freeview/Freesat?

I have read about people doing that. One thing I've just learnt is only the newer SSD's have something called "wear-levelling algorithms". Supposedly makes them last longer in a high use device like a PVR. Who'd have thought that all that continual recording into the time shift buffer would take...

    Freeview/Freesat?

There may be something in that but I don't know the answer 🤔 Cheers Tom

    Freeview/Freesat?

Strangely, the only size had I can recall reading about (Freesat) failing is the 500gb version. I'm not saying the 1tb doesn't occasionally fail but I've not seen any mention of it 🤞 Cheers Tom

    Freeview/Freesat?

Indeed, I've seen that during my search. It's easy enough 👍 Cheers Tom

    Freeview/Freesat?

It's basically an eventual replacement for both Freeview and Freesat. It's so they can eventually shut down all the big transmitting masts and also not need to find replacement satellites to beam Freesat from when they reach the end of their life in a few years. Cheers Tom

    Freeview/Freesat?

It's still quite possible that the hard drive did fail? Cheers Tom

    Freeview/Freesat?

I only asked as the Arris box was only released in 2020 so if you've had one fail already it's not a good sign. Could have been bad luck though but hard drives usually run without issue for years. When I was at work all our system control PC's ran 24/7 all year round. Our Vestel Freeview hard...

    Freeview/Freesat?

How long did you have the 500gb box before the hard drive failed? And how long have you had the 1tb box? Cheers Tom

    Freeview/Freesat?

I have been "holding my breath" for the new Manhattan box but I'm getting close to needing to breathe so may need to go for the Arris Freesat instead 🤷‍♂️ Cheers Tom

    Freeview/Freesat?

I presume that's why they will prevent recording on any supported device 😞 Cheers Tom

    Freeview/Freesat?

We got sky's full fibre (BT openreach) to the house when we came to renew our broadband contract. It worked out cheaper to get the fibre to the house than to renew the old fibre to the cabinet. I'm certain they inflated the price to get people to switch. The new fibre is plenty fast enough but...

    Freeview/Freesat?

I've already asked Manhattan via email about the recording option and they said no 😞 He didn't go into detail. Maybe the Freely people don't want us to be able to record from their streams? Technically it can be done as the old BT TV box, now EE TV box can do it via their own service but then...

    Freeview/Freesat?

The new Freely service is due to start sometime this year. https://www.everyonetv.co.uk/news/press-release/new-free-tv-service-via-ip Up to now only new Hisense TVs will have the Freely tuner/software inside but the forthcoming Manhattan T4-R will support "Freeview over broadband" so may get...

    Freeview/Freesat?

On screen? I'm actually asking about the button on the remote control itself. I should have been more specific, sorry Cheers Tom

    Freeview/Freesat?

Just out of curiosity, can anyone with a recently purchased Freesat box tell me if they've changed the ITV hub button to an ITV X button? All the pictures I've seen of the remote have a hub button Cheers Tom

    Muntons Smugglers: kit vs AG

Or, as in my case. If you've fallen out of love with the actual act of brewing 😞 Cheers Tom

    Freeview/Freesat?

Still not decided which box to get. I no longer have reservations about the Arris Freesat box. The other under consideration is the Manhattan T4-R that's not even available yet. I'm not particularly worried about it being full of bugs to start with as the T3-R was pretty usable right from the...

Can a malt mill be used to make bread flour?

That comment was intended with the thought of home milling in mind. I wasn't actually referring to adding strange ingredients to the bread mix. Standard strong bread flour from Aldi, same ingredients as all others I have used contains stuff...... They started adding Calcium carbonate years...

Can a malt mill be used to make bread flour?

I used to work for Rank Hovis McDougall. It really isn't as simple as you might think. After the initial crushing of wheat it all needs separating into different particle sizes before being ground again. This gets repeated a few more times until there's no larger "bits" left and all the flour...

    Freeview/Freesat?

I remembered about an hour ago that we didn't "recycle" the old sky box. So I found it and set it up. After a time period it sorted itself out and, lo and behold all is working. Two strong feeds, so if the decision is made to get a Freesat box I now know that there won't be an issue with the...
