Very Little Hop Flavour in a Hoppy Beer!

Just brewed a batch of "Ger Er Brewed" Hop On APA which has a lot of hops in the package. This brew went slightly wrong in that instead of throwing in the hops in the little bags they came in I used a very large mesh bag. It turned out that my mesh bag was very very fine as I found out when...

    Storing Kegs for Later Use

I do no chill for my brews anyway so this may be the way to go - not sure how long I could keep the brews "on ice" so to speak until ready to use. Thanks

    Storing Kegs for Later Use

I generally brew one beer after another so the new brew is ready to go into the fridge on gas straight away but I now want to have a brew or two ready in waiting - especially as I brew outside and want to do maybe 2 or 3. So the last brew was kegged and purged then giving 35psi and stored in a...

Hopping in a mesh bag - think I have messed up - any advice?

Just made a very hoppy IPA and decided to use a big mesh bag to try to reduce the trub and get a clearer brew. I think I may have screwed up though as I now notice the hop bag was only 75 micron - i.e. very fine. All was going well until I tried to lift the bag out and discovered the liquid...

Questions about Yeast Pitching and All In One Cleanup

Just finished brew day no 8! and need a bit of help. Making a Pilsner with Saflager yeast which needed to be pitched between 13-18c - in the excitement of making another brew I wasn't paying attention and found I had pitched the yeast at 20c. I use the chill in a cube overnight method - in fact...

ABV too high! When to Liquor Back

I realise that strictly speaking there is no such thing but the latest batch came out a lot higher that I had planned. I discovered that instead of using the recipe grain measurements I used what I ordered which was about a kilo more! I have only just noticed as the fermentation has ended and...

Boil Times and how to Know What to Use

Re timing the hops - I assume you mean when to adjust adding them? - did wonder about that. For example my recipe calls for a 10 min addition (in a 60min boil) so have to work out where that would be in a 45 min boil! If only I had paid attention in maths class!

Boil Times and how to Know What to Use

A few all grains in now and perusing some recipes for down the line. There seems to be a big variation in boil times so I would like to reduce mine - normally 60 min up till now. For example I have two recipes, one for a Pilsner with has a boil time of 90 mins and a American IPA with a boil of...

Carbonating in a keg then serving under CO2

Thanks - I wanted to store the kegs for a while then put in the fridge connected to CO2 - hadn't thought about the extra sediment caused by the secondary fermentation 🤨

Carbonating in a keg then serving under CO2

I plan on making a few brews then kegging and carbonating in the keg as I would with bottling. I want to have a couple of kegs in stock ready to put in the fridge and connect to CO2. Should I carbonate at the same rate I would have in bottles? - I use the batch method with dextrose, or is there...

Very Slow Pour From a Keg

As I am only using the picnic tap for now going to go for the short length - 200mm of 3/16. Waiting 30 secs for a pint seems interminable!

Very Slow Pour From a Keg

So connected my proper tap with a 2ft length of 3/8 pipe and beer came flooding through so maybe the picnic tap is poor. I understood I would need 10ft of 3/16 to get good flow with low foaming. Doesn't seem to be any blockage!

Very Slow Pour From a Keg

Just read a post elsewhere saying if the dip tube is not right in the middle (at the bottom) is can inhibit flow - is that a thing?

Very Slow Pour From a Keg

As the beer is very young - and possibly still carbonating, I haven't pulled a "pint" yet but a few small glasses full which took ages - I would say a very slow trickle. I will try & put up a short clip.

Very Slow Pour From a Keg

Yes gas is connected and ON at 15 psi

Very Slow Pour From a Keg

Could use a bit of advice. First go at kegging here - all the parts are brand new - including the kegs and a good quality regulator (I think) - 3/16 pipe at about a 9' length. So had the keg at 30psi for a few days then in the fridge at 15 psi for over a week now and using a picnic tap until I...

    Help with CO2 bottle

Just started kegging and received my first CO2 bottle - a 3.15 kg size. On connecting it it is reading 48bar and is in the light red section of the regulator gauge. Wondering if I have been given a low filled bottle or is it normal to read like this. Wanting to know when to re-order, assumed...

Help with Gelatin in keg to clear beer

Just starting to keg my beers now and looking with interest at adding gelatin to clear the beer - mostly IPA's and amber ales but will be brewing lagers soon so would like them to be nice and clear. Any help on this process would be great - I guess it's not too difficult but any advise so as...

    Glass or Plastic for Bottling

As an update - it occurs to me that when bottling with a PET I squeeze the air out before putting the cap on which clearly can't be done with a glass bottle!, so would that very small amount of air make the difference?
