Belgian beer, is it all it's cracked up to be?

I’ve been to Bruges twice last year but I’m a novice when it comes to Belgium beer. There were a couple uninspiring beers which I don’t recall but some cracking beers too. Drank a fair amount of Zolt as I like to start local but once I’d found a few decent pubs my favs were st Bernardus 12...

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

In Edinburgh this weekend for SWMBO’s birthday. Loving it so far as there are plenty of decent pubs. Also had a pint of Trooper - Day of the Dead.

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Not much beer so far but kicking off today with a cheeky 8.5% leftover from a trip to Bruge in the beer horn my daughter brought me ❤️

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Started with a trio English hop IPA then a Rev James (odd wine hint to it) and now a Azzaca pale

Would you swap your all in one?

I changed from the GF S40 to BZ Gen4 as the GF cheaper model was seriously flawed. First brew on the BZ Gen4 went well but used the onboard controller as I couldn’t get the RAPT to connect! Got a support thread running but went on hols so not resolved yet but no doubt me being a dumb-ass.

Moving to all grain what's a decent kettle?

I started the same way but 56l electric pot and made lots of great beer with it. Still have it but now using Bruzilla gen 4

    Bottle conditioning question

Hi DOJ are you gifted with mystical powers as my next planned beers were kveik Marzen, impy stout, wheat and saison!!!!!. Looks like I’ve blown it for my planned Xmas impy stout then! Brewed the Marzen yesterday but will now brew wheat first, then Saison for next spring and impy stout last. 🍻

Grainfather S40 - Mistake? Shall I return and get something else?

GF agreed to refund my unit but TMM didn’t want it back! Now bought the BZ gen 4 and wondering what to do with the S40?

Grainfather S40 - Mistake? Shall I return and get something else?

I've just kicked off the refund process with Malt Miller. Hopefully won't be too many hoops to go through. Also interested in alternatives used by other members, maybe a 30ltr unit rather than 40 as the 5kg min grain bill was restrictive for small batches or low abv brews. May bring my 56l...

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Not sure SWMBO would approve but loving the system. I harvest my hops when the outer cone leaves start to brown but not sure if that is the right point? Also what is the usual weight loss as my Fuggles reduced to a third over a week which didn’t seem like enough with what I’ve read on some threads?

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

A week with tossing them about most days so they dry evenly

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

EKG did much better with 1200g wet and still drying.

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Harvested the Fuggles a week ago and had 600g wet and after a week drying ended up with 200g in the freezer

Grainfather S40 - Mistake? Shall I return and get something else?

I have to admit I was happy with the AIO aspect to start with but looking at my brewing history since I started using it the FG numbers have been all over the place. Best I see when I bought it and see if I can get a refund?

    Homegrown hop drying

I normally make a hammock out of a net curtain and hang the hops somewhere out of daylight but with a good air flow (shed or garage) and it does the job in a few days. I give the hops a stir around to ensure they dry at same pace. Fuggles first on Saturday then EKG following weekend. This is the...

    Hello from Amersham, Bucks. UK.

Welcome Ian, I started out in a similar fashion then had a long gap before brewing again. You are in very good company on this forum for inspiration and advice and good luck with the APA 🍻

How do people brew their beer?

Ouch. Best wishes on a swift recovery AB! I started out in the 90’s with Hamleton Bard and other kits brewed in a bucket then lobbed in a pressure barrel. Usually drunk post pub by whoever ended up crashing over. Not sure why I stopped? Restarted 3yrs ago having spotted a Wherry kit with...
