There’s a chance they didn’t charge him VAT - they didn’t get charged VAT when they bought it and they don’t ordinarily sell to the public/homebrewers so there’s the potential there that they didn’t know.
£30 + VAT + overheads + a small profit margin will be pretty close to £40 a sack!

I think their reasons are the opposite to this. Lagers, pale ales, bitters etc have fewer places for faults to hide whereas with a stout, NEIPA or a sour, the dark malts, hops and sourness can mask a multitude of faults.
Lagers and NEIPAs are my reasons for pressure fermenting.
Also my Fermzilla is the one with the collection jar so there’s the advantage of being able to harvest yeast (although the only time I’ve done so it sat unused in the fridge for about a year and then I binned it 😂 ) and closing the jar...
