    Gizmo of the week

Yeah I got one of them about a year ago and it’s great. 3L Coke bottles (I got mine from B&M) work great with it!

I've made a massive boo boo

I used it for the first time yesterday. No sparge. Set my recipe settings to 70%, which I thought was optimistic. I hit 77%. That was a witbier as well, so 40% Hook Head lager, 50% flaked wheat and 10% oats!

I've made a massive boo boo

I accidentally made a Helles with MO instead of lager malt last year and won the pale lagers category at the LAB comp 😂 . I nearly didn’t enter it because I didn’t think it was very good. I haven’t even come close to winning anything in any of the competitions I’ve entered since 😂

    scottish trip - bottle swaps?

I’m in Monifieth about 5 miles outside Dundee. Not sure how much time I have to actually meet up (Wednesdays is the kids Swim club and my wife is going to a work thing in the evening on the 23rd) but I’d be keen to do you a bottle swap

    'Homebrew' Day at Treehouse Brewing

A group of my mates have been a couple of times because one of their friends moved out to Boston for work. I keep asking them to bring me back a can but they never have.

    Sourcing Co2

I use Hobbyweld. They aren’t the cheapest (about £65-£70 deposit and £35-£40 a bottle swap) but they have agents all over the U.K. (I have 5 within a 45min drive)

    Brewuk website "down for maintenance"

It was just the annual confirmation statement. Balance Sheet on their last set of accounts looks fairly solid (although it’s micro entity accounts so there’s very little detail). A lot can change in a year though!

    Lager than life competition

These things happen sometimes - I had 2 bottles turn to vinegar for the Scottish (scoring 17) and it scored 35 in the UK National (one of the faults - too bitter - I knew about; the other being yeast esters I still can’t taste even now I know about them).

Pub beer/Kit beer taste alike list

I got very excited when I saw Wherry on cask at my local!

Bevie and Keg King Distributing Partnership.

It’s clearly not the “first time they have become a wholesaler of products from a third party”

    Brewdog in trouble again

Mine wasn’t so much a hop bomb as a yeast bomb! Not sure if I got the dregs from the keg or what, but it was awful! I’ve got the DCA booked for a meal for my wife’s birthday in a couple of weeks so no doubt we’ll be back in before or afterwards.

    Brewdog in trouble again

Last time I was there I had probably the worst NEIPA I’ve ever had.

    Brewdog in trouble again

One of the guys from Holy Goat was involved in Vault Brewing’s beginnings.

    Brewdog in trouble again

It’s usually got 1 or 2 craft options on but nothing special, and because it’s part of the trendy DCA it’s pretty pricey.

    Novalager

Given that MJ mostly repackage and blend other yeasts I would suspect it’s a repackaged kolsch yeat, probably Lallemand Koln. It makes sense if you see similarities between M54 and K97.

    Brewdog in trouble again

Any particular reason you’ve chosen Dundee? We are a “up and coming” city but apart from the V&A museum there’s not much here. Broughty Ferry a couple of miles east is really nice for a walk as well (and the Royal Arch is a good pub - at least 3 cask ales on and a couple of craft options; they...

    Brewdog in trouble again

In the space of 5 years, they have gone from refusing to sell Laguinitas and Beavertown in their bars after those breweries sold stakes to Heineken, to selling Guinness in their London bar and teaming up with Budweiser China.
