    Fermenters

I have Brewbuilder 75L and 150L with coils. Good price, quality and just perfect for me! Dump yeast no problem and even CO2 pressure drop to kegs. I use them with Acask keg piped jackets, 6mm neoprene cone cover and STC100h modded Brandels sub zero bar chiller in series, the Daddy:cool:!

    1980s Newcastle Brown Ale

1.) Lots of years ago I remember having to 'run' to the canteen one morning when getting my motor bike exhaust fixed @ work. The welder scoffed bacon sarnie washed down with a bottle of 'dog' before welding. Great job though! but I bet he's not around now,,, 2.) Working@ S&N brewery in...

    Stainless Fermenter Treatment

@MashBag Sadly it's not just caustic most contain a chemical cocktail of foamers/ethoxlyated alcohols not nice in a confined space? Also not safe in a watercourse and slow degradation many banned in other parts of the world. Great for cleaning trucks out doors but nasty run-off. My food...

    Black mould on silicon seals

Cheers all. But @hoppyscotty yes, strip it every time as I am a paranoid android,,,,, urgo I sell to the unwashed,,, Gonna try clean/sanitise then leave dry. Like I do with all my TC seals,,,, Why did I not think of this? @MashBag My EHO a long time ago said bacteria don't like clean dry...

    Black mould on silicon seals

I'm noticing some black mould spots on my silicon F/V seals (S/S Brewtech and Brewbuilder) Easy to miss as it's small and in the creases. I use Hot (60-70*C) PAA /caustic, but am increasingly doing extra hot PAA on the seals all @ 5% diluted, 3-10mls PAA per litre of water. Then I end up...

    Sparge methods

This is my biggest current headache. I sprinkle sparge using the mains output from my solar PHE (@ 65*C), but i then pass through filters and U/V. Before it hits the mash pipe I need to add my HL sparge treatment. Anyone know a way to introduce the treatment proportionally as the liquor flows...

Is the Homebrew hobby in decline?

Another problem is the instant gratification syndrome of Gen Z. Who now can be bothered to wait 3 weeks for a brew to clear? and then there's all the bloody cleaning (which I enjoy, slowly rubbing my shineys,,,,,Ooops :coat:) Not fast or trendy. All the Baby booming ADHD Meccano addicts...

    Environmentally friendly brewday.

I have a 400L solar HW header tank that circulates through a 5kw PHE. It's sitting @ 57*C today. Also got a 3kw eco7 heater in the HT that 'tops up' to 75*c. I first pass my liquor through carbon/UV/10u filter then in my mash tun. At the end of the boil I recirculate through the PHE before...

Pressure Fermenting pressure Notes and guide

My understanding is pressure fermenting can more easily stress yeasts. However, I have been using this for my early season pseudo lager @ 8-10psi using Novalager @ 12-15*C as it saves loads of slow fermenting time. My 'experiments' follow my main brewing objective to be as efficient as...

    Inline water filter

As far as I know a filter system will not get rid of 'temporary hardness' I use 10u filter, Carbon and UV due to my location as a precaution from pathogenic bacteria and particles. I also have one of the highest UK levels of mg/L CACO3 @ 312. I treat that with CRS as has been advised and as...

A tad breezy up here again. Had no ferry for a few days as wave net says 7mish swell. But power is still on and stoves roaring nicely. Cold dry cider still safe in my fridge. Vietnamese spicy salmon and prawn broth coming together nicely. Back up battery system and torches charged...

    Going back to kits...

I've been using 25kg JC's of Muntons HLME (Extra Pale Planet) for years. Also got the same malt fine rolled for BIAB. I combine the two with steeped grains and carapils/carafoam and Dextrose. However, If (as usual) I have no time available I run brews just from HLME/dex and steeped grains with...
