    Fair point!

Advice on upgrading fermentation method - pressurised? Temperature controlled? Both? Neither?

Thanks for this, yes I do have a G40, yes this is interesting. Love the ice bucket idea - reminds me that I used to cool my wort down by dumping FV in a large container of cold water (prior to pitching). Simple but effective. Ta

    Football Season 2023.

TBF I don't think you can tell from that angle. All of the ball has to be over all of the line. It probably is, but maybe not

Water prepping before all grain brew advice needed please

OK looking at your earlier posts you recommend looking at YT videos etc to explain this, so I found the BF documentation and it looks like you need to create an actual recipe before you can get it to spit out the treatments you need to convert your source profile to the target profile. Not much...

Water prepping before all grain brew advice needed please

I haven't used BrewFather before, just looking at it now. The first 5 figures you have entered all look right to me, but I don't see in the report where you are getting HCO3 or Alkalinity figures from. Since BrewFather asks for an HCO3 figure, I would use that rather than a CACO3 figure. Once...

Water prepping before all grain brew advice needed please

Interesting. I have been using the water treatment calculator on this site (Water Treatment Calculator Page) for some time. I thought I'd look at the Brewfather one to see how it compares - I haven't used Brewfather before. I can save my water profile as the source no problem, and I can see a...

Advice on upgrading fermentation method - pressurised? Temperature controlled? Both? Neither?

Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder - I know my bias isn't logical. But it is inescapable. I know fridges are available cheaply/free, but the only place I could put one is in the shed - which is also my cycle workshop and potting shed, and thus is short of space. I suspect that if I had a...

Advice on upgrading fermentation method - pressurised? Temperature controlled? Both? Neither?

Thanks for this, very helpful. Interesting that MM 'strongly recommended' the Apollo over the Brewtools. I can't help it but I find PET fermenters very ugly, and although that shouldn't matter, it puts me off. This thread has been very helpful to me. I've decided not to bother with pressure...

Advice on upgrading fermentation method - pressurised? Temperature controlled? Both? Neither?

That is a very kind offer, thankyou, but I have decided to try bottling via the tap in my FV rather than use a syphon (which I hate cleaning).

    Flat It's a Trapp

Agreed. When I was a student I used to put plastic fermenter in hot bath to speed it along. No concern about complications in those days <g>

I made this exact same mistake!

Advice on upgrading fermentation method - pressurised? Temperature controlled? Both? Neither?

This what I just bought. Doesn't work, maybe because my Bielmeier has a sizable lip, I don't know. It clamps beautifully when no liquid in the vessel, but it can't hold it when buoyancy lifts the syphon tube.

Love it! That won't work with my G clamp though, is it doesn't have those flanges. I'm going to just bottle through the tap

Advice on upgrading fermentation method - pressurised? Temperature controlled? Both? Neither?

Bottling today - the g-clamp was hilariously useless. The syphon clamped on beautifully - in an empty vessel. But when clamping into my FV full of brew, well the syphon just arced up and levered itself out of the g-clamp! Worse than useless. Going to try bottling through the FV tap instead next...

    Electric cars.

yep I pay 7.5p per KwH with Octopus. Works out at 1.7p per mile, compared with 14p in my old car (which got 55 mpg)
