    Help me fix my homebrew.

I expect you've ruled this out, but were malt and hops fresh/ in good condition? Incidentally I see you were thinking of swapping out the Simpsons Golden Promise - I use that malt a lot and love it

It was the one where he compares it with the SS Brewtech fermenter. Fairly early on, maybe about a minute in, soon after the amazement at the number of parts to the brewtech!

    Metal beer

Just watched the David Heath video on GF30. In it he specifically says that you must clean thoroughly before first use to avoid metallic taste. I know you cleaned it, but perhaps it needed a super-super-clean? Seems like too much of a coincidence to ignore.

Yikes. Did you taste the wort before fermentation, and if so did it taste OK then?

    Metal beer

Just wondering, are you sure it is a metallic flavour? Has someone else confirmed metallic? I only ask because a nephew recently brought round a beer which he thought tasted metallic, but to me it tasted medicinal. Could it be subconscious anxiety about new kit makes you think of metallic? Did...

    Why do you brew?

Must confess I mainly brew because I like drinking the beer that I make, and so does the missus. Beyond that, I prefer doing something when I have a good tool for it. Re mashbag's comment about a frying pan - I have one particular frying pan that I love to use, because it is just so - er - nice...

Water prepping before all grain brew advice needed please

If you get a salifert alkalinity test you will get the other values you need to put into the HBF calculator to tell you how much acid you need.

    Does it get expensive?

Re single pour - you can decant beer into a jug before pouring into bottle

    Does it get expensive?

It is an interesting question. I did the sums a while back, in order to convince myself it was OK to buy a G40. At current prices it costs me about £20 for a 20 litre batch, ie 50p a bottle (£6 for 5kg Golden promise, £1.50 for 500g crystal, £3 yeast, £8 for hops, £1.50 odds and sods). A nice...

I'll match your 'click click' with a 'scoosh' - the sound my syringe makes squirting sugar solution into bottle <g>

If you already have a dolly, then definitely worth condidering a hydraulic lift. Has (lockable) wheels, surface area isnt much bigger than a dolly, allows you to wheel around like a dolly. Cost still a drawback though.

Not really that big when folded down, but about £180 I think. Not very elegant though, I know

Well I don't know if it is a *good* idea, but... you could put the gf on a hydraulic lift, and when ready to pump to fv, crank the gf up on the lift. You'd probably get the gf up to mid chest height. (My FV sits on the floor, but I've been considering a hydraulic lift to crank it up for bottling).
