What are you drinking tonight 2024.

I’ve been missing catching up here, and missing this 👇…. Due to a change in how I’ve been working in Orkney I’ve not been out to Helgies for about 3 months. Unfortunately I’m cycling to the ferry in about 50 min so I’m not sure how wise this is. I should also admit this is the second. The first...

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

My son has just got a job with brewdog and I realised how negative I feel about the company, both the situation with sexual harassment with the founders, and the idea of selling out to the mass market. He’s challenged me about my views and today I’m in Aberdeen on the way up to Orkney and having...

A glass of my Ice lager which is troubling strong but deliciously clear.

Visiting the Orkney brewery and enjoying a tasting tour. Also about to try the most expensive beer I’ve ever bought £17.50 for 330ml of oak conditioned 10% Dark Island reserve….I’ll let you know if it’s worth it😀!

    Anna's Brewdays

I’m not so active here these days but I do try to check in regularly. Sharing time between Stirling and Orkney isn’t conducive to brewing especially since I need to make up my clinic hours while here so it’s been a long week. I am though well behind on packaging up some of my latest Dubbel -...

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Life is sort of complicated at the moment 🫤🫤. I haven’t had a chance to drink this beer from @The-Engineer-That-Brews . while down in Stirling, so have carried them up on the train and ferry, to now enjoy here in Kirkwall. A light Witbier - not normally a beer of choice but this is light...

    Heriot-Watt Brewing and Distilling course

@Northern_Brewer oh that’s a really thoughtful perspective. As to why I’m spending quite a bit on this and what I hope to get out of the course … that’s a difficult one 🙈. I enjoy doing something so completely different from the day job, love the challenge, and the positive feedback is...

    Heriot-Watt Brewing and Distilling course

This week I got my mark back for my packaging and filtration essay which I am sooo chuffed with.... ok allow me the wee bit of celebration but It's my second highest mark over the last 4 modules and some lovely feedback comments. It was an essay on the requirements for packaging a new ready to...

That was a pint of Orkney Best consumed while watching the hopes of a nation similarly empty … oh dear it really is quite embarrassing. 🙈⚽️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Stu's Brew's Brewdays

Wow that’s quite some wedding preparation- and such a lovely idea 😍🌟. How large will the batch be at the Hook Norton Brewery? It will be really interesting to hear who the scale up in recipe works - are there any conversions or adjustments needed to the recipe when scaling up to the bigger kit...

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

End of what feels a long week. Heading back up North tomorrow so enjoying a glass of my inadvertent Eislager which is perhaps a bit over carbonated. It is growing on me but it packs quite a punch so is best enjoyed in small doses.

    Is it worth it?

Yep and best not to think too hard about the economics of it 😀🙈. Edit sorry - replied to an earlier post. Not keeping up here!

    Anna's Brewdays

It’s Chemclean, and yes it’s good stuff but a tiny droplet on the skin stings and the dust when opening the tub or handling the powder is enough to make me cough so I use a face mask while dosing it.

    Anna's Brewdays

Ooops…Well it tastes interesting. 🙈❤️ I was making the transfer and the fluid level dropped far far faster than expected, I was expecting two full kegs- instead I have one and a tiny bit. What on earth is going on - ah that -2 ish I’ve been keeping it at has frozen I’d guess at least 15 litres...

    Anna's Brewdays

More cleaning this evening and using caustic which gives me the heebie jeebies but it gets the job done. Things still not properly clean since the roofing disaster a year ago. I’ve cleaned everything at least twice but it still doesn’t seem right. I get quite upset about it if I think about it...

    Heya!

A warm welcome, though with those credentials I suspect that far from spying, that you've a lot of experience to share!

    Kegerator build

I reckon a second hand fridge is as good as a new one in the context of a kegerator and less stressful with drilling holes into. I think the main choice is about whether you go for an upright one with taps on the door and drip tray attached, or an under the counter style one with a tower font...

    Adding Grapefruit peel/juice to fermentor

This... Grapefruit juice is a potent inhibitor of the cytochrome P enzymes in the gut and to some degree in the liver, specifically CYP3A4. A glass of about 200ml halves the effectiveness of the enzymes for about 24 hours, and smaller amounts are also potent. There's not a lot of agreement about...
