There is such a thing as a "hop pillow".... hm.

What are you drinking tonight 2020.

I'm finishing off the last bit of the bottle that caused ssome trouble last night. There's another similar 2L one on the range which I might have a go of, some nice tawny port, a few bottles of bought beer in the cupboard and some other stuff. Some bottles of cider maturing away, too. Hm. Better...

    Covid-19 the second wave.

I'm sure it is, but there's an awful lot of other work going on to reduce the infection rate, of which this change is part, and only a limited supply of vaccine at the moment. So it's either "wasted" work, or more individuals vaccinated. The latter wins.

    Covid-19 the second wave.

They're just doing their sums, and factoring in issues such as the current rate of transmission. It's inferred that the single dose is over 52% efficient (https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2034577). As you say, so more people have some protection.

What are you doing this new years eve.

Nothing. Might have a clearout of old paperwork. Have a pint or two. Go to bed.

    Merry Christmas from Malverns

Sounds like an excellent way to use that rapeseed honey that's set like concrete in the comb.

    Brew years resolutions?

Nothing to do with brewing (which resolution is: "brew more!"), but plenty to do with drinking. "Appleyard, don't drink and post".

What are you drinking tonight 2020.

I have been having mostly a mixture of apple juice, tea and ginger, still cloudy, up at about 8.5% ABV. Sonething about it annoys me. Ginger and sugar fermented with Wilko's universal grevin makes a nice drign, but with appel jiuce, not so much. I feel an experiment coming on, but bed called...

Odd side effects of certain beers. (besides the obvious)

Nose bleeds are caused by falling face down, or walking into something woody, stoney or fleshy while upright. which I somehow still am! :) I used to dring a lot of Spam Sluts Old Brewery Bitter. Nice beer, but it always made me sneg like mad! No idea why.

    Whatever Happened to Water Beds?

I'm glad you got the reference! I think the episode was "And So to Bed".

    Whatever Happened to Water Beds?

You are Albert Steptoe, and I claim my five free flyblown heaps of accumulated filth. Mind that bayonet!

    Covid-19 the second wave.

I haven't actually gone to see my mum, who's banged up in a nursing home (where they allowed her to become infected) since March. It must be hell in there. Thank God I bought her a bespoke comms device in 2018 which can do auto-answering video calls. Without that, she'd be on the "15 minute call...

    Covid-19 the second wave.

If they were walking in, whacking someone, then walking out, would that be reported? Just wondering, I'm sure there are other parallels. I'd have no qualms at all about reporting them! The consequences of their actions are appalling.

    Covid-19 the second wave.

If you have the excellent NHS COVID-19 app on your smartphone (assuming!), then there's a handy "read latest advice" link which will open the information in your browser.

The beer, wine and cider snack thread.

Well, I did that. Drain, rinse and dry chickpeas. Cook at 180°C for 15 mins. Remove baking sheet. Chase chickpeas around, and put in cleaned-out Christmas pudding pot, add oil, ground chilli, garlic, paprika, stir. Put in shallow baking tin. Cook at 180°C for 15 mins. A bit too dry and...

    Covid-19 the second wave.

Enforcing the rules would be a good start. I'm already in T4, will have to look up who's gone up a tier or two around here. Edit: Quite a few areas!

I have a tin of those, and I'm going for it. 30p from Aldi (drained weight 240g).
