Fullers sell beer business to ashahi

Money talks........ like it or not, most have their price. Having said that, the Japanese are very traditional, and respect tradition, so in a way it's more plasuible that Fuller's will remain as it is.

    Formative Years (beer)

I went to pubs with adult frineds in the early 80's and could probably have got away with a pint, but I didn't really drink. When I could, I drank lager, as my friends drank in very average pubs with dull beers, and we weren't far from Watneys, so Red barrel wasn't too far away! As a result, I...

It's time to remember "What we used to do!"

When I was a kid I had for various reasons go on very long and arduous treks, and to toughen up my feet I used to wipe methylated spirits on the soles and anywhere that might rub. After a few applications it really hardeneded up the skin, but I wouldn't recommend it now due to semll and...

    Andy Murray's Mam.

Hold on.... it's my friend who hates with a passion, not me! I really have no time for tennis, so it doesn't affect me either way. I have every respect for his abilities and talent, he's achieved something that the UK has not for decades and decades. As I mentioned despite my love of formula...

    Andy Murray's Mam.

A friend of mine's blue touchpaper is Andy Murray! He absolutely hates him with a passion! It's quite funny, but he has a point if one cares to listen. What drives him nuts is Mr Murray's revesal of opinion regarding the support of the nation having once stated clearly that he didn't want...

    Thick bleach for sanitizer

This^^ I heard a podcast where a brewer used a blow off tube for a vigorous yeast, into a demijohn with starsan in it. The fermentation blew krausen into the demijohn, then sucked back about 4 pints of water/starsan mix! He said the beer tasted perfect, and theoretically finished at a...

    Thick bleach for sanitizer

I have used thick perfumed bleach, but it takes a lot of hot rinsing to remove the taint.

    Beer came out sour

I'm still a massive noob despite 10 brews done. One thing that still amazes me is how time changes beer. Brewing can be broken down into a very scientific process, but to seems that the introduction of the magmagc ingredient yeast, turns the whole process into part Art-form? I've had beers go so...

    Good lager in the UK

A different answer perhaps......... I think Lager has a long way to go here in the UK to shake it's dodgy reputation. By dodgy, I mean the reputation of being a cheap, fizzy, cold, slightly flavoured, refreshing on a hot day alocholic drink.... and no more than that. About 15 years back, I...

    Drones close airport.

Jumping back in on this thread as had some interesting personal Facebook stuff pop up. Firstly they've been released without charge. The guy's boss turned up on a thread on one of my facebook friend's posts, and said he was waiting to be contacted by the police, as the guy was working all three...

Sous Vide sealing machines in Lidl at moment.

Hope this is the right place, but Lidl currently have their Silvercrest Sous Vide bag Sealing and vacuum machines in stock at £19.99, with spare rolls of tube for £3.99. They work very well and I've just been sealing up all my spare bits of Hops for the freezer. I also intend to use my Robobrew...

    Drones close airport.

My family was due to travel to Spain for the Xmas break on Thursday. Our flight was cancelled. Nothing was bookable until Boxing day, so we have rebooked and are taking a shorter break. A few things, I live in Croydon so not too far away, and didn't have to travel far. I am a (currently)...

    Undercarbonated bottles

Thanks BigCol and Spratt, I have ordered the second one, the plastic triple dispenser. I have some bottling to do on the weekend so they should turn up in time for that.

    Fruit Wheat Beer

I would go with it and let it ride out to full term. I've been reading up on things like Yeast, sour beers and hops and so on for pre-bed reading(missus thinks I'm nuts), and it seems when fruit is introduced, a lot of the normal stuff you see can be quite different. As for sour beers, they can...

    Undercarbonated bottles

I just checked this morning the 2 bottles I set aside. One being the re-primed one, and the other being the control, both being kept together in the same conditions. The re-primed one is distinctly "tighter" feeling than the the control. That's after 4 days so I'll check it again after a week...

    Undercarbonated bottles

Right, I've added a just under level teaspoon of table sugar to a bottle, and recapped it. I selected 2 bottles (PTE) and both felt about the same in terms of tightness when pressed to check pressure. I have set the two aside with the extra sugar one clearly marked as such in a regulated 21c...

    Undercarbonated bottles

Temp was kept pretty constant at around 20. It's heatable, so minimum would have been 19, max with ambient 22.

    Undercarbonated bottles

Thanks guys. It was the second bottle, same as the first. They're in an insulated area held at 20-23 degress constant. Yes the sugar may well froth I guess? I might try one with sugar today and see how long I get before being to get the capo back on, if its too quick then carbonation drops are...

    Undercarbonated bottles

I bottled a batch of Smash Styrian Wolf a couple of weeks back, and tried one last night. The carbonation is a little disappointing(to me). They're all in screwtop PTE bottles, so it would be easy to open and drop in some more sugar, and quickly sanitise the caps. Is that an acceptable method?
