    Golden Ale Recipe

Cheers! This one you mean? http//byo.com/malt/item/2808-hop-stands That's possibly where peebee got his 15% figure from as well? That is useful. And confirms to me that a 15 min hop stand is right for what I want to achieve as is the 50/50 split of hops between hop stand and dry hopping. Thank...

    Golden Ale Recipe

Just had a look and it's set to 50% already giving me 5.2 IBUs from the steep hops. But, I had copied my EKG schedule across incorrectly. It's actually 30g at 60 mins and then 20g at 30 mins. That then gives 33 IBUs in total.

    Golden Ale Recipe

Yes, you're right I do want to drink it young that's the plan. Brewsmith works the IBU out at 33 though which I hope won't be too bitter for the style. The Cascade is all added after flameout or as dry hops. So hopefully won't be too bitter. Just hope the flavours work. I'm hoping for a...

    Golden Ale Recipe

Going to have a go at this one at the weekend, just using up some hops I have left in the freezer. Anyone used that hop combo before? 3.75 kg Crisp Maris Otter 0.19 kg Flaked Oats 50g EKG Leaf Hops (Alpha Rating 6.5%) @ 60 mins 5g Irish Moss @ 15 minutes 25g Cascade Pellet Hops 2015...

AG Brew day #5 Dry Stout

Back from my hols today, so to cheer myself up cracked a bottle of the stout. Been three weeks in the bottle. Not bad. Is dry and bitter, but not astringent. Rich and malty with coffee and vanilla at the end. Lovely thick, long lasting creamy head. Pretty pleased with it. Should mellow over...

AG No. 4. BBN Citra Saison Clone

Glad it's worked out! What do you think about the dry hopping? Was 30g enough? I really like this beer and it's very much yeast dominated with a hint of Citra as I've made it. I want the yeasty flavour to be the main event, how does it fare in your version with the dry hopping?

Let us know how the dry hopping works out please. Want to try that next time I brew this. Cheers.

AG Brew day #5 Dry Stout

I have toyed with the idea of using molasses/brown sugar. But I'm going to stick with Dextrose. Aiming for 2 volumes of CO2 so will prob get 22 litres in the bottling bucket and 115g of dextrose will get me to 2 vols of CO2. I just use the Brewers Friend Calculator to work it out for me...

AG Brew day #5 Dry Stout

So after 10 days in the FV am down to 1.010, which I think is it. So 3.8% as you predicted and no chill has been a success, so that's another method in the armoury. Had a taste of the sample I tested. I think I've just about got away with all that chocolate malt, lovely coffee flavour, hint...

AG No. 4. BBN Citra Saison Clone

Just 60 mins once the hot break had gone, and no sign of DMS at all. The steep step may also have helped with this, I don't know. But anyway, no issues.

Double Drop - and more questions

I think you'll find that most professional FVs are double skinned with a cooling system (usually glycol) and insulation between the two skins. You can't see it but it's there. I'd say that the second part of what you're thinking of doing is a hammer to crack a walnut. By all means use a...

AG No. 4. BBN Citra Saison Clone

As above, I'd probably dry hop with Citra as well, maybe only 10 - 25g, just to get the hoppiness more upfront than it is.

AG No. 4. BBN Citra Saison Clone

That's a great idea, I think that this would be improved with a more upfront hoppiness, though it's nice as it is. I thought if I did it again I'd dry hop it.

AG No. 4. BBN Citra Saison Clone

This came out lovely. After two weeks in the bottle nice crisp beer, got a bit of musky spice from the yeast and the Citra is there, though more subtle than I expected. This may go quickly.

Whats your biggest gripe when bottling?

Plus one for this. Also batch priming, a bottling stick and swing top bottles make bottling so much less hassle.

AG Brew day #5 Dry Stout

I did think about that, but as you say, should be able to drink a fair few of these with no ill effect! I am worried that it will be too bitter for the ABV though, but as you said learn from your mistakes, and it may be OK! Cheers for the advice.
