Changing set up - need advice

HI DJ, I moved from a similar setup (boiler and coolbox). I moved to the 50L all in one (BIAB) BrewDevil. I'm into my 3rd brew, and so far I only have good things to say. It a shorter brew day and easier cleanup. There are still a few mods you can do on this system like site glass kits etc. It...

Hello, new member looking for some advice!

My recommendation is to go on a bunch of brewery tours (that brew the styles you are interested in), ask questions about their systems. I expect you will find they are using three vessel systems some pumped some gravity. I have also seen some larger BIAB system popping up. Googling 3 barrel...

Popped my cherry, 1st explosive fermentation

So this has never happened to me before, but I had my 1st explosive fermentation. I'm pretty sure this is because I have been slowly pushing the maximum of what I can squeeze into my conicals. I brewed the same size batch two weeks ago using Nottingham and didn't have an issue, that was...

    IPA go suck it

Just my opinion, however, I feel the rise of the IPA or high hopped beers has become prevalent because it offers a vast amount of different flavours that can be achieved without messing around with the grain bill too much. Plus the shipping of hops worldwide it a lot more practical than large...

Angel Homebrew Brew Devil - First Brew Review.

I have just started converting my system from 2 pot and cool box to a brew in the bag system, I have already built two PIDs, and one has an Inkbird in so it can auto control the mash temp. I will write up the conversion at a later date. I have an arduino uno I build a temp sensor set up with I...

Moving onto all grain - some help please

There is a bunch of brewers in the US that have debunked oxidization hot side at least on the small scale. You would need a pump running that is sucking air from a loose fitting and pumping it into the wort for the hole transfer to even get close to producing HSA issues. There was a good article...

Who do you believe, hydrometer or refractometer?

So ran though this, kicked myself a few times and ended up here: thanks

What's new in homebrew (4 years away)

30 mins boil is now a real thing, as long as its a good strong boil?

Who do you believe, hydrometer or refractometer?

Yeah, getting less and less concerned that something is off. Something interesting I have discovered is the SG gradient in one of my refractometers is off, that said the Brix is reading true. Funny but good, all part of learning my way of brewing! Brix Reads 21 and the SG scale is showing...

Who do you believe, hydrometer or refractometer?

All those comments help! Thanks. Just out of interest I'm creating a control sample using sugar solution. The plan is to test, then water down by 50% and test again and so on until I reach 1.000 on both. I also found an atenuation corrector and it seems from that things are not that far off.

Who do you believe, hydrometer or refractometer?

Just to add, I made a starter as per the Beersmith calculator, it stood for a could of days in a cool dark place before I used it. Pitch temp on the wort was around 18'c.

Who do you believe, hydrometer or refractometer?

Hi All, I have a brew currently on the go, and I'm bumping up against a trust issue. I have two refractometers and an older hydrometer. I have confirmed all are reading the same in distilled water. However, they are wildly different in the wort. The two refractometer are reading 7 Brix (one...

Moving onto all grain - some help please

Not sure if anyone has suggested this but, why not take your 7L pot drill a bunch of fine holes in the bottom, make up a few spacers so when it's in the 20L it doesn't sit on the bottom, and you have a mini BIAB system minus the pump? Would it make more much easier sparging with a kettle and...
