    Fridge freezer to fermentation chamber...?

Hi All, I've been given a castoff fridge freezer that I've been using to cold crash and store hops but it would be more use as a temp controlled fermentation chamber. I was going to get an ink bird but it struck me that I'm not sure that I want the whole unit to be turning on and off if there...

    Ready to bottle ;)

Hello! I'm no expert, and without seeing your instructions, but I think that he warm place is needed to help carbonate your bottles and then the cold place is 'needed' to help the yeast/sediment to drop to the bottom. On my first brew I just stored my bottles in the coolest room in the house...

First batch - primary fermentation question

Hiya. I'm not an expert, but to answer a couple of your questions, from my experience: - sounds like your fruit will be fine? I've seen advice to add some vodka to the bag but a lot of the recipes I've been following say chuck it in when it's thawed when there's still a bit of fermentation...

    Low Alcohol (hypothetical)

Thanks all. I mentioned 'hypothetical' as my question was in order to better understand the process and what actions affect that element of the finished beer. e.g. reducing the amount of malt but using some darker malts to maintain colour. Thanks for the other threads, I'll take a look!

    Low Alcohol (hypothetical)

"Hypothetical" might be the wrong word, but I'm interested in knowing the ways to reduce the abv of a particular recipe. Are there any other options in addition to the following? - use less malt - cold crash earlier and then rack off, away from the yeast - dilute the wort Is the repercussion...

    Hello from the Wirral!

Hi, my name is Jon and I joined last month. I've been busy brewing IPAs and Stouts and having a great time! If there are any other homebrewers on merseyside that fancy meeting up to swap brews and tips, I'd be up for it. I haven't been able to find a nearby homebrew club. Cheers! Pugh

This is great, thanks all. Along the right lines then!

    Typical gravity dropoff

I don't know? I've seen the odd mention of taking semi-regular readings to check the gravity drop off in some recipes

    Brewzilla + Mash Thickness

I'm keen to know if there are others with biab brew systems that struggle to stick to recommended mash thickness in recipes? I tend to find that I need to have more water in to mash the grain in my grain bill. Has anyone experienced the same? Does it matter? I'm struggling to hit ideal OGs and...

    Typical gravity dropoff

Hello! I brewed a milk stout 2 days ago with an OG of 1.060. 2 days later and it's at 1.026. Is that typical? Seemed a bit steep which made me start doubting my original readings although I was pretty careful to take them at accurately and at ~20C. Thanks!

Part grain brewing in an electric BIAB system

Hi all, I've got a part grain recipe I want to try and wanted to know if there's any reason I couldn't do it in a Brewzilla system? I can imagine I might have to dilute the extract in my brewpan before it goes into the system but wanted to check and also find out if there's anything else I...

    Priming and Carbonation

Thank you all for your input! The bottles are stored at 20C-22C, I'm now thinking that too much of the yeast dropped out of the beer before bottling meaning there's not much to work with the priming sugar... Does that sound like it might have been the issue? Thanks for the feedback on the...

    Priming and Carbonation

Hi Everyone, I'm new to homebrewing and even newer to the forum! I've bottled a couple of brews and made sure ~3g of priming sugar was in each bottle and I've been a bit underwhelmed by the carbonation. I've been opening a bottle every 3 days since bottling to see how it's going on and I'm a...
