    Easy Keg 5L

The beer would be carbed, but you wouldn't have any head pressure to push out the beer. You'd get away with it with those kegs which have a bottom tap and one of those valves that lets air in at the top, but mine have no bottom tap and so require internal pressure to push the beer out the top.

    Corny question

M12 fits mine. But I don't have a thread, just a plain shaft. I guess your set up could be different, so worthwhile I illustrate with some pictures. You see the shaft where I push the washer, the CO2 tank face where it will eventually seal when I screw it on, and the washer in place. That...

    Wort not draining

+1 slow and steady. When I started, I had read that it's best to open the tap full. But that doesn't work for me. And I don't think it's surprising, as all you achieve with more speed is to pull more of the trub over the filter holes. Counter productive.

    First stage fermenting time.

3 weeks is not too long; often advised as standard fermentation time. But the answer depends a bit on your set up. Is the seal tight, are you opening it regularly to have a look? If well sealed and left alone, it'll be fine. All said, I caught another thread about a metallic taste, and the...

    Corny question

It was quite a while, and probably quite some leakage, before I first inspected my tank connection and became familiar with Dowty seals. The actual seal that I'd been using for a year or so, was so shot, I'm amazed it held back anything. Great things those Dowty seals; really good idea to bond...

    What are you drinking tonight?

My first ever AG stout, a Guinness clone (Wheeler recipe with extra malt to reach 4.4% ABV). Quite interesting. At first I was a little disappointed, but it grew on me. It's world's apart from any other AG I've ever done. I don't have a Guinness to do a side-by-side, but if I had to say, my...

    Corny question

The 3 bar seems to have raised eyebrows. There is such little space above the beer that you can't squeeze much CO2 in there. If I charge that small head space to 3 bar then turn off the gas, the head pressure starts to drop very quickly as the CO2 absorbs into the much larger volume of beer...

    Corny question

One thing you must certainly do is to purge the head space of air once you have sealed up. And given that you then have the new beer in, and the gas line attached, no harm in just finishing the job. Many suggestions on carbing up are at the extreme ends, very slow (serving pressure), or super...

    Klarstein Beer Dispensers

I had a keg bulge and have decided to switch to the safety release bungs, for peace of mind. I had no problem pushing in the wand though, with no lost beer while doing so. And the connections, tubing and tap all held firm. Not a single drip. Still, every last drop of beer from that keg started...

    Westmalle Tripel

Well, reactions have been pretty spectacular. For example, on the back of trying this, a work colleague and his beer loving wife have decided to start home brewing. She came to the office and came to tell me that it's probably the best beer she's ever tasted. She's familiar with Westmalle Tripel...

    Aerating Wort

I recently switched to using a cut off paddle and drill. Much easier on the arm and a whole lot quicker. Cost... £1.32. Assuming you already have a drill of course.

    Cost of an AG?

Oh... had thought about secondary fermentation, but just wanted to keep things simple, and yeast free. I can live with 2.5p per pint.

    Easy Keg 5L

No tap on my kegs. Only the second use of these, and was away on holiday. Would have spotted the bulge earlier but wasn't there. And the beer was very unique also, in that it stopped way too early and was sweet to the taste as a result. But SG didn't move for a week. Not sure if this makes...

    Cost of an AG?

Out of interest, for the first 7 AGs, I calculated the exact cost per pint, using proportions of malt & hops used, plus yeast (dry pack). I didn't bother to factor in the likes of Irish moss, CO2, water, water treatment, sanitiser, electricity, etc. And I more or less followed clones of well...

    Easy Keg 5L

The entire keg was needed. Keg was rocking, so tapped early. Almost burst open in front of my eyes as I pushed in the tap. But I guess it bulges way before it bursts. Anyway, the keg was a gonner, just wanted to save the beer. Drank it anyway, a bit flat, 5l jug and waited for foam to die back...

    Easy Keg 5L

Is there a way to release excess keg pressure? I thought maybe using the CO2-in in some reverse way? All I can think of for now is to drill a hole in an empty CO2 bulb. Would that work?

Instant cooler - Lindr PYGMY 20 & photos

Today my cellar is at 27 degrees, which is crazy. And I'm drinking beer at less than 6 degrees, which is awesome. Great machine!

    Easy Keg 5L

Oomph, you had me worried there for a bit. I just bought 5 boxes from that supplier! I plumped for the larger volume as the delivery charge is static and I expect to be using my dispenser (or an equivalent replacement) for a very long time.

    Westmalle Tripel

By far my best AG so far. Best beer in 22 years when you throw in kits. Westmalle Tripel is my current favorite beer, so I am biased. I followed a partial extract recipe, but adapted it for all grain. I also played with 2 of the hops to match my own stock, and substituted candi for dextrose...

    Crash Cooling Questions

Well it's pretty conclusive I think. Bearing in mind it was refusing to fall clear. The yeast dropped about 3" a day. By the end of the first week the first wave had reached the bottom, but there was still some banding left. This banding dropped out in the second week. It's very very clear after...
