Does beer taste worse than before?

Lost your sense of taste, Dave? ashock1 😷 🤒

    Plastic or Glass Bottles?

It's about opinions. No need to spit the dummy if someone has a different one to you. Lighten up a bit for godsake.

    Plastic or Glass Bottles?

No, you're right there Kelper but a beer in a plastic bottle just does not sit right with me. It's personal preference obviously. Don't like Irn Bru out of a plastic bottle either. You get take away meals in foil containers but I would not want to cook a fillet steak and serve it in one.

And I never suggested that you ask for it. Apologies if I hurt your feelings. :laugh8:

    Plastic or Glass Bottles?

Can't believe how stingy some people are on bottling. Most people seem to spend decent money on ingredients, be it grains, hops, yeast or a good kit and are happy to splash the cash on equipment but are dead against decent bottles. You can get 50 new glass bottles and caps for under £30. The...

    The youth of today.

That is shocking Foxy but I would still question the upbringing of those kids if they are resorting to that kind of stuff. Is that something they have seen in the family home?? I would really be questioning myself if my own children had done that. Something massively wrong with anyone's style...

    The youth of today.

It is easy to blame the youth of today and it is a cop out. It is the parents you need to take a look at. Children generally take the lead from their parents and behave in the same manner. You can tell a hell of a lot about someone just by looking at how their children behave.

What kit beer are you drinking tonight?

Gar, is this the normal Coopers stout or the Irish stout? Did you just brew it up with Coopers brew enhancer or did you do something different?

What kit beer are you drinking tonight?

Crin, how does the St Peters cream stout compare to the Coopers? Tried the Coopers a while back and not all that impressed to be honest. Just no head to it at all, more like a glass of flat coke. I've seen loads of people post about how good it is but half of them agree it has no head...

    BIABasket

Love the idea of using this instead of a bag for a stove top brew., looks like it could be a much cleaner process and easier to stir the grain. Anyone tried that? Or are the baskets too flimsy to hold a decent weight of grains?

    Furlough

Not sure where you are getting these figures from but I have helped a number of businesses with these claims and very rare to see someone ineligible. Unless they have started self employment since 6 April 2019 then most will qualify. Limited companies are different but they can access the...

    Homebrew expectations vs. commercial beer

Got to agree with you kelper. An awful lot of the beers I buy now are a let down and I end up thinking, not as good as my own and I don't proclaim to be a grand master brewer. Only started brewing in the last couple of years but if you don't attempt to reinvent the wheel you can produce really...

    Furlough

IMO it is a decent system and very few people (employed and self employed) will have ended up with nothing at all. Most will either have been furloughed, received a self employed grant or a grant for their business premises. Like everything else there will be a very small minority who have...

    Carbonating questions!

Hi Neil, for me this is probably the most frustrating part of an otherwise fantastic hobby. It sounds like you have done things absolutely fine, it sometimes just takes a bit longer to carb up in certain cases. I know patience is difficult when you have waited a month after first brewing but...

    Honey instead of sugar.

Pretty sure the Brewdog Punk IPA kit tells you to use honey to prime it.

    Lager Kit

Mick, it came with Mangrove Jacks M54 Californian Lager Yeast to ferment at 18-20 degrees. It was slightly warmer than that, maybe 22-24 degrees but came out with the correct gravity readings.

    Lager Kit

It was in the FV for exactly two weeks and the final gravity reading around 1.008. Just seemed very very fizzy like no other beer I have done before but I wondered if that was just normal for a lager kit more so than an IPA??

    Lager Kit

Just bottled the Mad Millie lager kit that Brew2Bottle were promoting a few weeks back. It has always been IPAs I have done before and this is my first attempt at a lager kit. When I was bottling it yesterday it seemed so carbonated already, is that normal for a lager kit? I could have poured a...
