    Whole yeast cake or half?

This is a lager yeast I've had in the fridge for a week. I'll pour a bit of the beer on top into a jar tomorrow. then pour the rest of the beer away. Then pour the yeast into the jar. Then there will be a bit of beer on top of the yeast. Generally I'll use a cup of yeast in a brew. For a...

    Whole yeast cake or half?

I leave a bit of beer on the yeast cake. Then I swirl it around. Pour it into a jar and leave it in the fridge. Leave the lid slightly loose. It will settle over time, and the missus will ask WTF is this. Then after a week or so I'll pour a bit of the beer into a 500ml pasta jar. Pour the rest...

    Christmas on TV

My brothers dog didn't like that cat much.

    This Christmas, has anyone..

No, I never seem to get to drink that much. Besides I only had Christmas Day & Boxing Day off. As I drive for a living I have to be careful what I consume. I made an IPA a couple of months ago. It's not very strong at all. I had a few of those. Generally I'm too bloody tired after driving all...

    Coopers kit

I think you're correct. I'd be having a google of those hops before you start throwing them in. What do Columbus hops taste like? Pungent, resiny, earthy, and spicy; sometimes having the aroma black pepper or licorice. Aroma can change to qualities of marijuana if used heavily in the...

    Christmas Decs

Looks like the outside ones will go up next weekend now. It's usually the first weekend in December. Usually a stinking hot day when I put them up. Burn the backs of my legs sitting on tiles. The inside ones I have no control over. 1st January, up, out of bed. They all come down in a couple of...

What are the best types of bottles? Where do you get them from? Share your opinions...

I replaced all the rubber seals on the Grolsch bottles I have with silicone. Every single bottle is flat. No carbonation whatsoever. I've now gone back to rubber seals. Someone on the Coopers forum had silicone seals on flip top bottles. Not Grolsch though. He said he had no trouble with them...

    Xmas kit

I made a Coopers APA a few weeks ago. It had Cascade and Galaxy hops. I bottled it and put most of it away in boxes, and half a dozen or so that wouldn't fit I left on a shelf in the garage. Then last weekend I accidentally picked a bottle of it off the shelf. I thought it tasted good, and only...

    Coopers European Lager Review

It's a good beer, but you'll have to leave it in the bottle for a while. I think Coopers say 12 weeks. You could add some hops around day 7 or 8. How long are planning to leave it in the FV? 14 days? Or make a hop tea when you bottle it. I sometimes make a hop tea at bottling time. Strain the...

    Coopers European Lager Review

Saflager S-23 Yeah, that's the lager yeast. It'll be fine. I'm not sure it'll be like the Leffe you're drinking though. I don't think I've ever tried that but the description below makes me think the Coopers Euro won't be like that. Leffe Blonde is a Belgian Abbey Ale, golden in colour. It has...

    Coopers European Lager Review

The Coopers yeast is Lager yeast. Which Saflager yeast did you use? I've done a Euro Lager with 1.5kg of Light Dry Malt before at 13C. But I used two packets of yeast. If I were you I'd stick at 18C if that's where it's at. Don't take any notice of the airlock. You'll have to bottle it and...

    Coopers European Lager Review

I'm kind of struggling to understand all the fermentables you used there. How much did the packet of Spray Malt weigh? And the Light dry malt extract. What weight. It just sounds a lot of fermentables. At 1.060 one packet of yeast might struggle with that. Especially at a low temperature. I'd...

What goes on in politics and social media

I know three people who had the pink batts installed. Two rusted on Liberal supporters. They were more than happy with the installation. Your friend didn't sign the form and send it off to the government did she? If she didn't sign the form all well and good. If she did, well what can I...

    Do you feed ducks bread?

These little fella's were outside my front door this morning looking for food. They got weetbix, the Aussie version of weetabix. Sometimes we'll feed the adults bread though.

    Tasteless Lager

This bloke knows how to do it. On the Coopers website they say to use Malt rather than sugar. And to put them away for 12 weeks. I'm drinking a very nice Coopers Euro lager right at this moment. Looking back at my notes, it was brewed in May. Doesn't time fly when you're drinking homebrew?

Wilko light golden larger, what hops/yeast to use?

I couldn't decide whether to do my ales and stouts at 18 or 20C, so they ferment at 19C for about 5 days. Then raise the temp a couple of degrees for a few days. I generally cold crash, even it's just for a day as I find it's easier to bottle cold. So no, you don't want those beers fermenting...

Wilko light golden larger, what hops/yeast to use?

I've used that method. The last lager I made was loosely following that. I say loosely as my work hours are unpredictable at times, so I may not move the temperature up or down precisely when I should. For instance I have a stout in the fridge that should have been bottled on Monday. It's at...

Wilko light golden larger, what hops/yeast to use?

Sorry guys, I've been working 12 hour shifts so didn't see the question. I tend to brew my lagers at 13C. In a fridge obviously. If you look through the thread about Coopers Euro Lager you'll see some people struggled to get it to ferment. The solution is to use two packets of yeast. The...

    Coopers Stout Imperial Style...How?

Just an update on this. My Coopers IRS is nearly a year old. It's nice, but I wouldn't make it again. It's 10% so has quite a kick to it. Nice if the missus thinks you're only having one beer. However in my opinion, and my work colleagues, the Toucan + Choc Malt is far better. I'm not really...

    Help!

Just let it ferment out. It depends what temperature you have it at. Although the ferment would probably finish in 5 or 6 days. Most people would leave it another week. So 14 days in the FV all up. Then when bottling you'll have to add more sugar or dextrose.
