Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

A general question on process. When I watch harrybrew69 on the toob I see that he throws the dry water treatment ingredients in with the dry grain before underletting. Which appears to mean that his sparge water is not treated at all. He adds his AMS to the mash directly too once it is wet. I...

    Brita water filter worth using??

I do. I have an undersink brita GAC filter. It removes the chlorine for me. Mostly so my water for whiskey (drinking not making) tastes super nice.

    Single Check Valve

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001238510088.html I use these liberally. Also my gas manifolds have non return built into them which is useful too.

    Ferminator

It looks like a nice idea. Especially for being able to dismantle and store (eg in a loft). But for me it looks like a peltier cooler. They are notorious for being very inneficient for cooling. Almost down to 5%. Even if they managed to get this one to work and much better efficiencies I would...

Questions about my kegerator - is using cooling coils in the fridge a bad idea?

Another addendum of importance for anyone else thinking of trying this: I got very close to making my in fridge cooling coils out of copper pipe. I can bend copper pipe reasonably well so thought it would be ideal. That is before I had a small worry in the back of my head about acid eating...

Questions about my kegerator - is using cooling coils in the fridge a bad idea?

Just to note that I don't keep gas turned on all the time. Only when serving. And when burst carbonating. I think that this helps with carbonation stability a but rather than with gas turned on all the time.

Questions about my kegerator - is using cooling coils in the fridge a bad idea?

So initial findings are: Changes in ambient temperature affect carbonation levels a bit (expected). But this is not too much and is manageable. Despite having over 55 feet of 5/16 tubing I still think I need some more experimentation with line balancing. But maybe this is just a feature of my...

    Dry hoping in a keg

    Dry hoping in a keg

Yup. At least I have before and it was fine. Just try not to agitate it too much.

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

This is awesome. Thanks Steve. I have just got my salifert tests and now I know why dark beers are difficult for me. And why my pilsners are always the best regarded of my beers. It turns out my water is fairly extreme for tap water. 5ppm for alkalinity and 10ppm for calcium. severn trent...

Questions about my kegerator - is using cooling coils in the fridge a bad idea?

Thanks crowcrow. you confirm my original thoughts on the limitiations. I have installed one coil. Only tested now with carbonated water. The output temperature and carbonation is quite stable it seems. For the first 1 litre that is. And it seems to take about 30 minutes for the next pour to be...

    CO2 cylinder orientation

Ask your supplier if they do other sizes. If I remember right mine is an "AF" size. The normal ones are "LF" size. I think. both of the 6.35kg capacity but totally different dimensions. Failing that put a latex mask and a hat on the top of your cylinder and pretend you have a new lodger in the...

    Brewers Clarex

I use Sterilisers, Chemicals and Sundries - NBS Clarity 15ml - The Malt Miller | The Malt Miller in all my brews. I understand it is the same things as Brewers Clarex. I actually double dose adding 1ml per 25L brew at the time of pitching the yeast. The purpose is to make my beers drinkable by...

Questions about my kegerator - is using cooling coils in the fridge a bad idea?

g'day all, I have a kegerator in my garage that is under a worktop. So it is an under counter fridge. The internal size is actually quite large and I can get 3 19L corny kegs in there ok. What I want though is 5 taps. Mostly because one tap needs to be dedicated to dispensing carbonic acid (aka...

    CO2 cylinder orientation

You can get shorter 6kg tanks too. I have one that is shorter and wider than the normal 6kg size. Mine come from thebeerandgasman in the midlands.

    2 x fridges - FREE - collection from B31

Hi all, 2 Fridges going spare. Rearrangement of garage means no space for these. 1. a tall silver fridge freezer. Upper part is the fridge that fits two 19l corny kegs easily. I am sure a third could fit too with some door/insulation modification. I've used it for kegs upstairs and then kept...
