    Stuck in the Suez !

I kept meaning to write this for a few days. But seeing the news a few days ago and again today, the size of the container ships and the amount of good coming from the east. Isn’t it time we started to produce more in the uk again. I remember when I started my apprenticeship in late 80’s the...

    Recommend a Stout recipe

I’ve never used the wood chips ! The chunks are around 1” square So I’m not sure about how many of the chips you would need to use, it’s trial and see :confused.:

There’s normally around 20L in secondary, and 7 days gives a really oaky taste. Last brew was 14x days due to my shift patterns, will be ok to taste in a week or so

    Recommend a Stout recipe

Hi I’m using barrel/cask chunks that I bought from malt Miller a few years ago. Think they were 500g, Once used I dry them in the oven. I then place them in a Tupperware tub in my fridge with 500ml of whisky for the stout. Tend to be in whisky for 6 months but the oaky taste is still coming out...

Looking through old threads came back across this ! Ive now made a similar clone to Brewdogs Islay recipe a couple of times, adding whisky soaked chunks to a secondary for a couple of weeks before bottling. I also added 0.5kg of Belgian candi sugar which bumped up the abv to around 11% for my...

    Trackday Laps and Crashes

Also added the crash that I decided to hang up the leathers from doing track days. Ended up with 6 months off work last year, also unable to brew for a few months 🙄

    Reiterated Mash Imperial Stout

Bottled earlier and only 43x 330ml bottles, there was quite a lot of sediment was in the secondary fermenter. Strong whisky, coffee, and oaky !-)

    I it generally cheaper

Hi all I’ll say it started with cost for me as you would go out to Brewdog or Innes Gunn and it’s around £4-5 for a schooner ! Depending what you were drinking. This started me brewing, but now it’s more about taste and being able to try different brews myself. Plus is still works out a lot...

    Reiterated Mash Imperial Stout

My first attempt a couple of years ago ! I’d been out for the day and returned home with explosive stout all over the kitchen walls 😳 and ceiling 💥 Missus was pleased 😂🤣 I’ll bottle Tuesday or Wednesday, the oak chunks I’ll dry in the oven for 10 mins, then add back to a single malt for the...

    Reiterated Mash Imperial Stout

I made my last stout in June last year 2020, started drinking after a few weeks of bottling. It was good then to drink, but it did get better as I saved a few bottles for Xmas.

    Hydrometer

I use a glass hydrometer for my Og and Fg readings, but I also use a tilt in with my brews, it’s excellent to see when it’s finished fermenting, I always brew around 25L in my fermenter and only one brew at a time though, so I only need the one.
