    Ace electric boilers?

Hi Beercat Yup - that's it. False bottom in, mash, then as I'm pumping the sparge water in, I drain the boiler into an FV below. Once the sparge has finished I dump the grain on the compst heap (as per suugestion from Tony1951!) and give the boiler and false bottom a quick rinse before using...

    Ace electric boilers?

Sounds like a good result Nigel. I tried the BIAB method once before switching to Tony1951's method of just putting the grains straight into the boiler. Both work well, but I've now worked out that I get better efficiency with the grains free. The bazooka and false bottom are probably...

    Small batch brewing

I was mulling over the same question at the start of the year and bought a 30l ACE boiler on eBay. At £100 it worked out more than a stockpot, but comes with various bits that are really useful for AG such as a bazooka filter, ball valve, false bottom, and grain bag. It's a great size for...

    30% discount Inkbirds for review

They are excellent products and have probably kept me from electrocuting myself!!! Can't beat plug and play for simplicity. I use a 310 for my fermentation fridge and a 308 to set and regulate my mash. Both work flawlessly.

    Boiler Automation Electrical Advice Required

Have you looked at the Inkbird temperature controllers? I have used a 308 to control the temperature of a recirculating mash. The ACE boiler I use has a 1600w heater which produces a small overshoot, but I'm thinking of putting a diode in the circuit which will halve the power of the heating...

    Ace electric boilers?

Just finished another brew and thought I'd post an update on things, having tried some of the Mash Monster-type things from the video that Beercat posted. I used a little brown solar pump (£10) to recirculate the mash - worked a treat and I ended up with very clear wort as soon as I started...

    Fermentation temperature spike....ignore or act?

Hi Twostage! I'm using an Inkbird 310 and a reasonable unbranded thermometer. Both have now been used to check wort and air (as I swapped them yesterday). The Inkbird is callibrated, but I probably need to double check the other one. I was a bit surprised at a 6 degree difference between air...

    Fermentation temperature spike....ignore or act?

Thanks Graz I guess the difference between the action of a kitchen fridge vs a fermentation fridge is that the wort creates its own heat. I taped and insulated the probe to the FV yesterday and bingo - straight down to 18 degrees. Once the initial fermentation reaction is finished then I...

    Fermentation temperature spike....ignore or act?

A couple of months ago I finished my fermentation fridge build and after reading loads of threads on where to put the temp probe I settled for sticking it to the side of the fridge, following observations from Twostage and others who have put a lot of time and effort into comparing probe...

    Ace electric boilers?

Doh! Yup - bag-less and grains roaming free! Must be the altitude...or the Northern Brewer ale I dug up earlier this evening! On a separate note I also had another look at the disconnected 900w element on the newer boilers (including my own) and I think it's going to be pretty difficult...

    Ace electric boilers?

Overall I think it's a a great piece of kit - the insulation, 1600 watt steady boil, ball valve, false bottom, bazooka, grain/hop bag. All for under a hundred quid! Still very happy with mine. No problems to date. I use the false bottom during the boil and haven't had any overheats. Mashes...

    Brew Fridge.

My 1ft 60w heater is more than adequate for the job in a 150cm fridge...should easily cope with a slightly bigger fridge.

May as well have a brewday then

+1 I dry hop at least half of every batch as a test, and always seem to prefer the hoppier version. I think hop addiction is a side effect of brewing!

    Ace electric boilers?

Hi Tony Plenty of options on eBay under "12v solar pump". The brown ones seem to be v popular on the forums. Audio is very flakey...I had to turn my volume right up to hear anything and even then it's muffled. I can feel a "pimp my ACE" thread coming on.... Cheers Ian

    Ace electric boilers?

Not seen it before - some good stuff! He's got a close up video here as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEOcidUoewM&feature=youtu.be

    Ace electric boilers?

+1 a very well behaved boil. I find mine takes about 45 minutes to get there. I'm hoping I can reconnect the spare internal 900w element to reduce the time to boil, but think they might have clipped the connectors too short. I'll keep you posted!

Fast Ferment Plastic Conical & Stand

The brown stained sellotape around the bubble wrap is tidy - I clearly need to upgrade mine! Each time I put a brew away and string tape around it I can't help thinking there must be a better way! [emoji1] Checked a Golden Ale 48 hours into fermentation last week. The insulated FV had risen...
