    Wheat beer cabonation level.

Oh dear! Its not looking successful, tested out another one, some head on it but very cidery! The first half of the bottle was nice but once I poured more in I suppose the settled sugar all came through, bleh! Will more time improve the flavour? I have the bottles in a warm place next to my...

I was thinking two weeks to condition? Humm maybe something else is wrong then. It was only one bottle in 36 maybe I was unlucky.

Okay I sneakily opened one just to see if it sprayed everywhere and it was flat! That much sugar clearly didn't overcarbonate! Think I will leave them alone for the proper amount of time now.

to sparge or not ! Appreciate a bit of advice fellas ....

This may be a stupid question..... but what's the difference between a mash out and a too hot mash temp? I hear lots of talk of strict control of mash temps to prevent extraction of non fermentabke sugars, but mashing out seems to involve the very temperature spike your trying to avoid? Also...

    Wheat beer cabonation level.

That is exactly why I am enjoying brewing so much, three completely different answers. How about London, Harbey and I meet back on this thread in a few weeks and compare final carbonation levels in our brews, so others can gauge there own approach next time. London, if you want to go for...

    Wheat beer cabonation level.

I just bottled 18L of wheat beer Saturday. I was pretty worried about it being flat, so I aimed for about 4.3 volumes which was quite a lot of brewing sugar (200g+) No bottle explosions so far, so I can at least say if you aim for the very high end you wont have exploding bottles in at least the...

    Trub Question

I believe its actually a flexiable spring, I cannot seem to find a UK maker of a lauter helix, but can find springs and the connector, will probably make my own.

    Trub Question

Thanks for all the tips so far, have to admit though I think that helix looks bloody amazing! Going on my shopping list for sure.

    Trub Question

Afternoon all, Yes it is a trub or no trub thread, but I am not intending to have the whole debate again, I promise I have read the other threads! I have just completed my third BIAB brew session and overall am very pleased with how the day went. On my previous two brews I did not really see...

Evening, well I just did my first proper rack and bottle and besides my siphon been a bit short, it went extremely well and I have 36 pints conditioning. I will have to admit defeat on the refractometer, it was miles out! My hydro gave me an exact reading each time of 1.013 the refractometer...

    W

That would make a lot of sense! I am bottling this Saturday I will do a hydro check and check my refractometer calibration. Thanks everyone!

    W

Ah, I calibrated the refractometer (love saying that word) to distilled water when I first got it, but your saying I now need to do some additional tests to ‘dial in’ my refractometer to the hydro. I will get started on that, great tip! That makes perfect sense, so there would be sugar present...

@hendy Ah, of course! Attenuation! I did not click onto this despite reading multiple posts on it. Thanks for that! @harry Refractometer, I know this is supposed to be less accurate but I have done multiple samples pre boil and post boil and compared the two and it always came within a few...

Evening all, I was gifted a home brew kit for Christmas by my lovely wife and made an almost....drinkable, but flat, wheat beer. Naturally, I am now hooked! I have purchased myself a 25L Klarstein brew kettle, a copper immersion chiller and all the extras needed for a basic BIAB set up. I...
