    Oats and Oxidation

Thanks for the replies thumb. I ask because NEIPAs are always highlighted as being sensitive to oxidation thanks to alot of oats (manganese levels) and opening the FV for multiple dry hops. I've seen mention elsewhere too of people having failed stouts due to the use of oats for a creamy...

    Oats and Oxidation

Morning all Will keep it shortish but was hopeful of some advice regards oats and to a lesser extent wheat when brewing without closed transfer or kegs. Is there a general rule of thumb regards using oats without oxygen protection? Ie, a percentage of grist bill after which oxidation become a...

    Oatmeal Stout

Considering this recipe myself - how did it pan out? Also wondering how susceptible it is to oxidation? Is there a rule of thumb regarding the percentage of grist for oats as to start being extra concerned about oxygen? Force transfer isn't an option for me currently I'm afraid.

    Adding raspberries

I did the Greg Hughes variant just before Christmas and did little more than thaw 3kg of raspberry overnight and chuck them into the primary (23L) for 7 days. Came out good though 2 or 3 days extra may have been called for. Gonna do a mixed berry philly sour one now using 4kg and give the...

    Greg Hughes recipes

Yes mate read through it a couple of times - an interesting read - and a guy at my homebrew club used it recently with great results so I shall pester him too but I'm pretty sure he just winged it. Was going to pitch two packets, ferment at 25 and keep mash temperature low. But following on...

    Greg Hughes recipes

Yeah if nobody presents a better way then I'll just treat the strike water with acid. Wondered whether there were any obvious alternatives when using a 100 percent pale grain bill though since it seems so frowned upon!

    Greg Hughes recipes

Hey all Im keen to repeat Greg's raspberry wheat recipe using Philly Sour yeast instead of WLP001 but am worried about the mash PH. Below is the recipe which brewfather calculates to be 6.03 using my tap water or 5.89 using reverse osmosis. Cannot remember how much attention I paid to the PH...

Mini Keg - Not holding pressure?

Hey Things look much healthier after having reassembled things a couple of times with an even heavier application of vaseline and swapping the SS gas disconnect for a plastic one (don't think the latter was the culprit but I'm yet to change it back). Got another beer in there now and whilst it...

    Kegging/force carbonation newbie questions

I very recently bought a 5L job - my first keg too. As mentioned you can remove the tap but be sure to use the pressure relief valve first to stop beer going everywhere. Regards the regulator you should be able to turn it off but whilst force carbing the needle is likely to drop due to the beer...

Mini Keg - Not holding pressure?

Brilliant reply MMBF - thanks for your input athumb.. If forced to guess then I would agree to it being on the regulator side rather than the keg itself. Since connecting it to the keg at 15 psi first thing this morning (reg turned off) it hasn't dropped - not sure if that pleases me or...

Mini Keg - Not holding pressure?

So I set the pressure to 15psi and turned the regulator dial to the off position. Slightly over five hours later it is down to 11psi. I guess that is fairly conclusive unless anyone with experience of force carbing can dive in? TIA

Mini Keg - Not holding pressure?

It's in the fridge though. And I should have mentioned that the 0.5 drop is whilst keeping the regulator on (ie, once 15psi is was reached I didn't touch it again). Will try it now turning the regulator off at 15 psi to see if the drop is consistent or increased. The ideal would be to pass it...

Mini Keg - Not holding pressure?

Yeah that's what I wondered - whether the drop was just standard for force carbing - but if so then Gareth didn't say as much. I queried with a couple of guys in my local homebrew group but they thought it more likely a leak. I thought it would have carbed by now as I have been trying to...

Yeah I've combed his website and watched his - plus other people's - youtube videos 🙂

Mini Keg - Not holding pressure?

I have been doing. Been emailing him since having placed the order for multiple reasons (mostly with quick responses) as it has been a difficult buying experience and more recently whatsapped him with my issues/photos but he hasn't managed to resolve it. The closest I've come to fixing things -...

Mini Keg - Not holding pressure?

Hey guys A few weeks ago I bought a Dark Farm 5L mini keg as below but the pressure is dropping no matter what I try. Now I'm completely new to kegging of any kind but really don't think it's user error. Black 5L Mini Keg with Premium Disconnect DOUBLE WALLED Keg - Dark Farm When asking...

MaltMillers Giving it a Gose - Water Profile?

Hey all Never done an all grain sour or brewed with fruit before and so thought this kit would be a fun way to dip my toes in. Episode 20 – Giving It A Gose | The Malt Miller It uses acidulated malt (20%) in the latter half of a two hour mash to get the PH down but there is no mention of what...

Best app to use with iSpindel

Cannot change the reporting interval within the app itself I'm afraid, you would have to hit reset on the board before entering config mode again. As for exporting raw, hit 'more data' and then the icon top right corner.

    Milky NEIPA Lactose Indecision

Okay thanks. Might round it up a bit then. As for vanilla I think you actually replied at the same time as I was editing my post. 'EDIT: Saying that, a lazy search on youtube suggests it's easy enough. If I did 12L without, and 5L with then how much would suffice - half a bean?' Consensus...
