Newby questions about levels of yeast in bottles

I am currently using kits and I am also using a bottling bucket. My current schedule is 3 weeks in primary, 3 weeks in the bottle. I am considering increasing both of those to 4. My last batch was 10 weeks in primary because of unforseen circumstances, but that is currently bottle conditioning...

Newby questions about levels of yeast in bottles

Hi all, I have made my first few batches of beer and generally I am pleased with the results. I am fermenting in a primary fermenter and then bottle conditioning. I want to have less yeast in the bottles in the next batches as they can taste a bit yeasty. I am going to leave more beer in the...

Kentish ale similar to Suffolk ale?

I haven't come across this brand of kits before, but there are loads on on there to choose from. I will have a look for my next purchase. I wanted to make a stronger ale than 4%, but maybe it is time to start deviating from the instructions a little

Kentish ale similar to Suffolk ale?

I didn't realise there was a kit brewing section. I still appreciate the information you all have provided. It's important for me to learn about the beers I know and like in order to try to get the results from my brewing that I am aiming for

Kentish ale similar to Suffolk ale?

Hi all, This may be a rather stupid question but up until now I have just been enjoying drinking beer and not really paying attention to the different brewing styles and so on. Now that I have started brewing I need to figure out what all the different beer types actually are and how to go...

    Storage of Young's Steriliser Cleaner

I don't think it is similar to One-Step. That looks like an oxi based cleaner which I don't think the Youngs stuff is. Does anyone store their cleaner/sanitiser in their vessels when not in use?

    Storage of Young's Steriliser Cleaner

Hi all, I am bottling my first batch of homebrew. I have been using the Young's steriliser and cleaner for cleaning and sanitising. I have made a lot of it now to cover the bottles and the bottling vessel and a bunch of other stuff. Any reason why not to store it in my bottling vessel for...

    Increasing ABV after primary fermentation

I didn't realise that I would get as much as 0.2% from conditioning. I think hitting around 4.1% would be a success so I will crack on with the bottling in that case. I will be saving these tips for next time though if I feel like I am low on ABV. Thanks for all the help ladies and gents. This...

Thanks for linking the guide. That has got some excellent info in it. I typically like drinking amber ales and golden ales. I enjoy the occasional stout as well. My current favourites are the likes of Badgers Fursty Ferret, St Austell Tribute and Bass. I would love to get to the point where I...

    Increasing ABV after primary fermentation

I also assume it is was too late to stir it now if there is excess extract at the bottom since it was been fermenting for about 17 days and the gravity is stable. I don't want to introduce oxygen at this stage and risk contamination.

    Increasing ABV after primary fermentation

The kit was this one; https://www.brewstore.co.uk/festival-golden-stag-summer-ale-beer-kit I didn't add any additional sugars to the wort. I thought after some research that all the necessary starting sugars were contained in the liquid extract. The instructions did say to add sugar but I...

    Increasing ABV after primary fermentation

Thanks for the suggestion. My starting gravity was 1.036 and my final is 1.008. I have recorded 1.008 48 hours apart. The chart that came with the kit said the final gravity should be around1.009. It's a golden ale. I wasn't able to stir it as vigorously as I wanted when on brew day. I also just...

    Increasing ABV after primary fermentation

Hi all, I am new to home brewing. I have my first batch on and after taking my readings it looks like I am at final gravity with a couple of consecutive gravity readings. I am making a kit and largely following the instructions. After using an ABV calculator it looks like I am at around 3.7%...

Hi all, I am new to home brewing and to the forum. I have my first batch on made from a kit which I am thoroughly enjoying working on. I think each batch I will get a bit more adventurous with how much i take on, but for now, it's kits and following the instructions. I am definitely a source of...
