PureBrew Starbrite and Britewort.... or just a whirlflock tablet?

I'm putting together an order with GetErBrewed for my first all grain recipes (Big Book of Clone Recipes) and would appreciate some advice. I will probably start with BIAB while improving my set-up. My part-mash endeavors were with kits from Dark Rock Brewing and they always include PureBrew...

    Is Liquid Yeast Better?

Thanks everyone. Interesting and informing replies.

    Is Liquid Yeast Better?

I'm sure this question has been asked many times before, but her it goes again.... Dried yeast is cheaper (if you don't harvest and reuse) and stores easier than liquid. So why use liquid yeast? Is the beer really that much better?

    Anyone waiting for Hopcat?

I had never heard of HopCat until reading this thread, but as I am setting myself up for going all grain brewing......drum roll.....I'm interested! Is the 45l fine for knocking out 20-25L batches of beer? Mark 3 version arrives in August, so I might as well go straight for that. Did you get...

    Priming 5l Kegs vs bottles

Thanks guys. Bottling and kegging a Boston Lager from DarkRock this week, so I will know soon enough!

    Priming 5l Kegs vs bottles

The second type. My preference is also for a lower level of carbonation, so I often drop to 75-80% of the recommended sugars. Also, how do you decide when to stop filling your keg? Do you measure in 5 litres or is there a set amount of head space I should leave?

    Craft Beer & Brewing magazine

Thanks guys! 2 books now in my shopping cart.

    Craft Beer & Brewing magazine

I am currently in the part-grain phase with my eyes set on going full grain. Is this the right book for me? Also, is there any saving between recipes and preassembled full grain kits? I am currently loving Dark Rocks kits and so wonder what the premium is I pay for their knowledge.

    Priming 5l Kegs vs bottles

Just got a couple of 5l kegs set up and will be filling them (and bottles) in about a weeks time. My recipe would normally use 100g of dextrose for priming for carbonation in bottles only, but what about kegs? Do you do everything the same? Do you prime the kegs with half the dextrose and...

How do you stick your labels onto bottles.

I don't like soaking off labels, so I write on the lids instead. Not as pretty and I can only fit an acronym, but it's a system that works for now.

    Carbonating in the keg

Thanks terrym. Now I understand. As a bonus question - Any thoughts on whether Nitro improves a stout or just makes it look prettier?

    Carbonating in the keg

Thanks Honeymonster. It seems that our required keg set up's are similar: I need something that fits in a fridge and that's portable. Phase 1 will be 2x 5l kegs, both with spears, using CO2 cartidges (cost more, but probably more practical with a short 5l keg). Phase 2 (barbeque set-up) will be...

    Carbonating in the keg

I'm getting closer to ordering some 5l kegs with a dispensing system, but my research has raised other questions.... I had understood that you get a better beer when it is is carbonated with CO2 rather than with sugar in the bottle. However, it seems that some people add sugar to the keg to...

    Grain Mills

Some good answers, so thanks. I would be happier to avoid buying a grain mill. However, how cool do I need to store the crushed grain? Is 20-25C okay? This is something I had not thought about.

    Grain Mills

I understand that grain keeps for less time when crushed, so I believe I should plan on crushing my grain. Any tips on economical solutions?

Storing beer after bottling and keeping cool

I was trying to say that having a lower temperature during the night might stop bad things happening to the beer. ie. 25C is not ideal, but you're okay if the night time temperature is quite a bit lower. There is also the question of how many hours the beers environment is over 20C. My original...

DIY Wort Chiller - Best Place for Copper?

Thanks for all the info. Kegthat.com confirmed that they deliver to Italy, plus by the end of the month they are also making cool box mash tuns, etc. Hopefully they will be able to assist with most of the kit I am looking for.
