    Low ABV Grumpy Troll

Thanks for the answers. Just dry hopped the Full Suspension Pale Ale in an FV. I checked the gravity and that seems stuck at 1.020. Using your calc, that's 56.5% attenuation as opposed to the 72% in the recipe. Now off to swirl it about a bit!

    Low ABV Grumpy Troll

This leaves me with some final questions: 1) What should I have done differently and how should I have known? Should I start to routinely leave the wort an extra week once the fermentation has stopped for 3 days? 2) What to do with the bottles? I am thinking of opening one after 3 days and I...

Wort Chiller - Is it really necessary?

Thanks everyone. Good to know I am not screwing up at least one thing!

    Low ABV Grumpy Troll

Standard glass beer bottles purchased for homebrew that have been used many times before. Recipe called for 150g for 19L. I used 80g for 10L. Surely the fermentation is over if the FG has not budged for a few days and it's longer than the recipe? I know that a 27C ferment would make things move...

How many litres of home brew 2020.

I'm looking for a recommended Proper Job clone. How did it go and (if it was a winner) can you paste the recipe?

Wort Chiller - Is it really necessary?

My 3rd question of the day. I don't have a wort chiller and have been avoiding the purchase (as I may go from my current set-up to a hopcat or similar). I just let the beer cool naturally before pitching the year the following morning. Is this a fundamental mistake and I either need to get a...

    Low ABV Grumpy Troll

I used MANGROVE JACK'S BELGIAN ALE M41 Total fermentation time was 16 days. 20C for 7 days and the remainder at 27C. No more bubbles and it remained at 1.035 for a few days. The recipe expected 14 days. Beer is bottled and inside sealed plastic containers as my usual precaution. Perhaps I...

    Conditioning - Definition

I don't have a fermentation fridge (yet) so have never brewed a lager. For that reason I have never seen mention of a diacetyl stop either. sorry.

    Conditioning - Definition

I should have guessed that one! So you must use a fermentation fridge. Will a fridge still be able to hold at 3C or is it a freezer conversion?

    Conditioning - Definition

'2FV' means '2 x fermenting vessels'? If I compare with recipes from the 'Big Book of Clone Recipes' they are typically 'Ferment at ?C, bottle or keg as normal.' They don't even mention conditioning or ideal 'waiting times'.

    Conditioning - Definition

I have the book 'Home Brew Beer' by Greg Hughes and the definition of conditioning raises questions for me about natural carbonation. My understanding was that I add the priming sugar to the bottles/keg and then allow a couple of weeks at the same temperature as the fermentation process...

    Low ABV Grumpy Troll

As my 3rd attempt at all grain brewing using BIAB, I decided to try the Grumpy Troll Belgian IPA. The recipe was from the book 'Big Book of Clone Recipes'. It should be a whopping 9.2% ABV, but I ended up with 5.8%. I had adjusted quantities for BIAB and and a 10l rather than a 19L batch. Where...

Does a keg spoil after you have drawn the odd glass?

Thanks for the feedback. Guess I just need to ensure I add more gas before I put the keg away (after drawing off beer). As a bonus question.... Should the gas gannister remain connected when you force carbonate (whether over weeks or minutes)? Or do you reach the target PSI and disconnect?

Does a keg spoil after you have drawn the odd glass?

I only have small 5L stainless steal kegs (DarkFarm's), but I don't drink a lot. My question is whether the beer spoils once it has increased head space (drawn a pint or 2) and if there is a rule-of-thumb on how quickly an opened keg should be consumed? PS. Don't have this issue when it's...

    Dark Rock Brewing

The YouTube site 'Beer kit reviews Partridge' is pretty handy as they have reviewed dozens of Dark Rock's kits, among other brands. They did a chart of the best kits at the end of last year and 'The Bosses Boss' from Dark Rock got first place and 'Proper Job' also placed high (I think 3rd). I...

    Dark Rock Brewing

I assume All Grain or Part Grain (don't believe they offer those as extract kits). I also went from Festival extract kits straight to Dark Rock part grain kits. The difference is pretty dramatic (like going from a 15 year old Fiat Panda to a brand new Mercedes). That happened during lockdown...

    Can you over-carbonate a keg?

I think I need to start force carbing my kegs. I use 5l stainless steel kegs (Dark Farm) as they fit in the fridge and run these on a soda stream bottle or cartidges. With natural carbonation I don't even need to attached the gas for the first few pints. I could put the gas cannister and keg in...

    Can you over-carbonate a keg?

My experience with this problem began with extract kits by Festival(now full grain), which already eliminates the possibility of a screw up by me. I noted that the beet became overcarbed after a long store. So I went through a range of things that included: making sure it was not a contamination...

    Dark Rock Brewing

I have done their Proper Job, Bosses Boss and the Boston Lager. Proper Job was my favourite and they were all very good premium level kits. I would love to buy more from them but I also have to pay £19.50 delivery. I'm working on recipes instead, but have not produced anything to Dark Rocks'...

    Can you over-carbonate a keg?

It's not a bottling timing issue (went through all of that), but rather the effect of temperatures that are never below 20C in the coldest place I have outside the fridge. Seems these restart the carbing process. My assumption is that you can get away with +20C storage if the temperature drops...
